SPRING FOOTBALL OVER, SHROYER EXTENDED WELCOME TO THE WAR, ELEVATION 7200 FEET The Wyoming Cowboy football team completed their first spring scrimmage a couple of weeks ago under coach Dave Christianson. The Cowboys came out of the spring a little banged up as Coach Dave is looking to bring the "Cowboy tough" mentality back to the program. Coach Dave felt that the toughness was gone from the team and they had gotten soft, but this will be the case no longer as they came out of spring drills with only 53 healthy players. For the spring game the Cowboys needed to have some alumni fill-ins just for some depth, and the likes of Ward Dobbs returned to the field for one last hurrah as a Cowboy. In the hottly contested matchup of who the Cowboy starting quarterback will be in the fall, the depth chart was released having Karsten Sween as the #1 guy followed by Dax Crum and Adam Barry. The quarterback depth chart is sure to change in the comings weeks once Robert Benjamin and Austyn Carta-Samuels are welcomed into the Cowboy program. In other Cowboy football news, former Cowboy quarterback Chris Stutzreim has transferred from Laramie to FCS Indiana State, hoping to settle into a pro-style offense. Stutzreim started 6 games for the Cowboys last year and led the Cowboy team in a victory over Tennessee. Stutzreim will certainly face challenges in his new home as the Sycamores have only won 16 games since the year 2000. Former running back Devin Moore signed a free agent deal with the Seattle Seahawks after not being drafted in the NFL Draft. Moore figures he has a shot to make it in a backfield that has struggled the last couple of seasons. Moore was the only Cowboy to be invited to the NFL this year. Wyoming Cowboy basketball has extended the contract of Heath Schroyer until the 2013-2014 season. The Cowboys have had significant progress in Schroyer's time in Laramie, as the Cowboys posted their best APR score in quite some time, meaning the Cowboys are now at a full 13 scholarships, whereas they were at 12 last year for academic reasons. Schroyer was also said to receive an undisclosed raise in the new deal as well. Schroyer also brought in some new signees to the team, Desmar Jackson from Ohio who was an all-Ohio basketball player and a finalist for the Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year. Also signing with the Cowboys was Daylon Harrison. The WyoNation website is looking to add more features over the coming months, in hopes of making this the one stop place for all of your Wyoming Cowboy/Cowgirl information. As usual, the forum is open for discussion from Cowboy athletics to anything that comes to mind. It's going to be a long summer until fall camp comes around, stop in and chat with the locals in the forum. You can also find WyoNation on Facebook by following this link to our Facebook page.
