Steve Suder Out, Jay Novacek In
WELCOME TO THE WAR, ELEVATION 7200 FEET

University of Wyoming head wrestling coach Steve Suder resigned from the Cowboy wrestling program yesterday after 19 years in the head coaches position. Suder, a mainstay with the program, coached several young athletes into the NCAA tournament, and had quite a bit of success with the program, but the program was failing, and the ship wasn't looking like it wasn't being righted. UW athletic director Tom Burman is looking for new blood to head the wrestling program. In the interim, Ben Vom Baur is heading up the program until a replacement is found. Vom Baur is a former UW wrestler. The coaching search will likely go nationwide, but the obvious choice has to be head man at Northwest College Jim Zeigler, who runs one of the best NJCAA programs in the country, has close ties with the state of Wyoming and would recruit well the athletes located in our square borders. He has won a national champion with NorthWest this decade.

With Suder on the way out another former Cowboy is in.. the Hall of Fame, that is. Former Wyoming Cowboy tight end Jay Novacek has been selected to the College Football Hall of Fame. Novacek joins former teammate Troy Aikman, former Notre Dame and South Carolina coach Lou Holtz, and running back Thurman Thomas. Novacek was part of the Dallas Cowboys dynasty of the 90's where he hauled in touchdowns in a number of Super Bowls. Novacek, a native of Martin, South Dakota, will be the 4th Wyoming alum elected into the hall joining Eddie Talboom, Bowden Wyatt, Amos Alonzo Stagg, Bobby Dodd, and former coach Bob Devaney. Congrats to Jay!

Former tight ends coach for the Wyoming Cowboys, Harvey Patton, is in a hospital in Denver recovering from a car accident from April, on his way to Fort Collins. Patton is in stable condition and is starting to regain motor functions. More information can be found on the forum.
