Cowboys Lose Shootout at the AA

The Wyoming wrestlers are making a name for themselves this year, they are having their way with most of their opponents this year. When the Oklahoma State Cowboys came to town it was being billed as the biggest weekend in Cowboy wrestling history. The Cowboys (of Stillwater) came to the AA as the #3 ranked team in the country, facing the Cowboys who have been ranked #25 and #29 by various wrestling media, looking to defeat the Cowboys for the second year in the row. OSU, former employer and alma mater of Wyoming head man Mark Branch, is known for the strength of its wrestling program. The Cowboys of Stillwater handled the Pokes 31-3 in front of a 2000+ person crowd at the AA. The Cowboys dropped several close matches, and the sole win came from Butte, America native Cole Dallaserra. The Cowboys were looking to right the ship the following night as they defeated two WWC opponents, first beating Utah Valley State 37-3, then defeating defending WWC champion Northern Iowa 26-12. Joe LeBlanc turned in an outstanding 15-0 technical fall vs. UNI. The Cowboys are gearing up for a trip to the midwest where they will face WWC foes North Dakota State and South Dakota State.

The Cowgirl basketball team also had a big weekend. They were able to defeat the Air Force Falcons at home by an impressive 98-37 score. The Cowgirls shot 84% in the first half, including 20 three-point shots. All ten Cowgirls scored points. They will next face UNLV on Tuesday in Las Vegas.

WyoNation POG

WyoNation’s player of the week is Kasey Garnhart. Kasey went 1-0 over the weekend for the Cowboy wrestlers. In his win over his opponent in the dual vs. WWC rival Northern Iowa, Kasey started the match down 5-0 after a lateral drop put him on his back. Kasey fought back and scored numerous takedowns and a near fall to come from behind and win 11-9, to give the Cowboys a 9-0. Kasey is a redshirt freshman from Ten Sleep, Wyoming majoring in social sciences.

Congrats to the player of the week!
