Cowboy wrestler Joe LeBlanc earned All-American status this past weekend with a 4th place finish at the NCAA Championships this past weekend in Omaha, NE. LeBlanc, the sophomore from Meeker, CO, defeated two of the weight classes better wrestlers en route to his fourth place finish. In the consolation final, LeBlanc was defeated by Mike Cannon of American University. LeBlanc is the 5th two-time All-American for the Cowboys. Sophomore Michael Martinez finished the weekend with a 3-2 record, one round shy of placing. Senior Cory VomBaur ended his Cowboy career with an 0-2 tournament mark. Sophomore Shane Onufer finished the tournament with a 1-2 record. Wyoming finished in 33rd place with 17.5 points. The tournament was won by the Iowa Hawkeyes, followed by Cornell and Iowa State.

In other athletic news, the Wyoming Cowgirls won their first round game in the Women’s NIT tournament, defeating Nevada at the AA. On Tuesday night they will face Texas Tech, also at the AA at 7pm, looking to continue their season and stay alive in the NIT event. The Cowgirls were invited to the NIT after a strong showing at the MWC tournament. In the MWC tournament Hilary Carlson was named to the MWC All-Tournament team.
