The Wyoming Cowgirls insist that they continue their winning ways, and they did so in a big way this week by dominating the Westminster Griffins. The Griffins from Utah were outmatched by the Cowgirls. Senior Hilary Carlson led the way for the Cowgirls as she piled in 29 points for the 6-2 Cowgirls. Following here were Aubrey Vandiver with 16 points and Jade Kennedy with 12 points. The Cowgirls will play Wednesday night in the AA against Wisconsin, who the Cowgirls defeated for the 2007 WNIT championship. The game will start at 7pm.

The Wyoming Cowboy basketball team went in the opposite direction as the Cowgirls as they were beaten by the UC-Irvine Anteaters 83-68. The Anteaters completed a sweep of the UW basketball teams as both squads defeated the Cowboys and Cowgirls. The Pokes were led in scoring by Francisco Cruz who had 14 points. Next in scoring was Djibril Thiam, who had 12 points for the Cowboys. The Pokes will next face Denver on Tuesday in the AA with a start time of 7pm.

The Cowboy wrestlers will be in action this week as they take on Oregon State at Erickson Thunderbird Gym in Casper.

The Cowboy football team got a handful of recruit verbal commitments today as well. They picked up 5 new players, two via the JUCO route. The Cowboys picked up a verbal from OL Zach Rushing from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, quarterback Brett Smith of Salem, OR, WR Dominic Rufran of Colorado Springs, Rafe Keily of Wheaton, IL, safety Luke Anderson of Blinn College, and the gem of the group, Adam Pittser of Richmond, IL. The Cowboys are quickly piling up recruits as they have 25 spots to fill this season. Pittser and Smith are the two QB recruits of this class. UW desperately needs help on the OL and defensive line, and it appears the coaching staff is hitting those positions hard. Signing day is February 3rd.

Go Pokes!
