With a new season kicking off next week, WyoNation will take a look at Cowboys who could do some damage to the Wyoming football record book. First up is WR Chris McNeill.

Chris McNeill

The senior from SimiValley, CA has 87 receptions for 878 yards and 7 touchdowns in his career so far. Those numbers would have been slightly improved but he missed the last four games of the season last year due to injury. It will take a productive season for McNeill to land his name in the record books at “Receiver U” but here are his statistical targets for this fall:

Receptions: 64

With 64 receptions McNeill would tie Gordy Wood for tenth all time at 151 receptions for his career. If he can snag a few more balls, Mike Jones in 9th (152) and David Leonard in 8th (153) could be tied or surpassed. Catching 64 balls is not asking too much considering he had 42 receptions in just 9 games last year but he will have to step it up and become Brett Smith’s go to guy. Probability: 50%

Receiving Yards: 995

With close to 1,000 yards McNeill could sneak into the top ten in all time yards receiving. Alyn Griffin who had 1,873 yards in the mid eighties currently sits tenth on that list. This would  require McNeil to double his yards output from last season and post numbers that would be good enough to break into UW’s all time list for receiving yards in a season. I would like to see this happen but it is doubtful considering the fact it would take an All-MW level season for him to reach these numbers. Probability: 15%

Receiving TDs: 5

With just 5 touchdown receptions McNeill would be tied in 9th place in all time receiving touchdowns. Freddie Dussett and Allyn Griffin both currently sit in that spot with 12 career receiving touchdowns Just two more additional touchdown receptions would see him tie current San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd in fifth with 14 career touchdowns. If healthy McNeill should have no problem reaching 5 TDs since he hauled in 4 TDs last season. Probability: 90%
