Re: The Travesty - or - Travesties

What kind of world do you live in that someone who failed was still a "good hire"?
The real one. Not the la-la land of believing that everyone can see the future.

How about you?

Re: The Travesty - or - Travesties

I completely and emphatically disagree. Burman is a horrific athletic director. Yes, we'll just have to disagree. As for the Christensen hire, though: that was definitely a good hire. We got a successful, big-time coordinator, who was coveted by other schools. Did it work out? Nope. Were there five...

Re: The Travesty - or - Travesties

Of course Burman's going to be "involved" in the hire. He'll have final say. That's what ADs do.

And that's not a travesty. He made a good hire in Christensen, though it didn't work out. We all hope there's another hire of someone at that level, but that this next one does pan out.

Maybe I'm just not smoking the same stuff as you, but that makes zero sense. Christensen was a good hire, and other than that- what?
Just exactly what I said in my last two posts.

Re: BREAKING: Christensen Fired

Wait a moment- you honestly saw improvement in football since we hired Christensen? Are you watching the WYOMING Cowboys?
Read my entire post. I said that DC was a good hire, and other than that all sports -- except golf -- are moving in a good direction.

Re: BREAKING: Christensen Fired

And Burman's attempt to keep his job begins......rhetoric change.
Burman should keep his job.

Christensen didn't pan out, but it was a good hire.

Other than that, about the only sport not headed in a good direction is golf...and it's lunacy we have that sport anyway.

I do not want Wyoming to turn into the Duke of the west. Great basketball but poop football!!!!!!!!
You might not, but everyone else would be so happy with that, it wouldn't even be funny.

Re: Mediocrity

+1 on basketball as well, it is much easier to build a basketball power in this day and age than for us to build a football one. Not by any means suggesting that we abandon football, but just that we try to send more support towards our basketball squads. Yep. There are a number of places where thi...

Re: Mediocrity

I don't disagree that the program is in taters and moral is very low around here Doc. I am with you as well that DC must go. I was just pointing out that Beav wasn't really talking about this year he was talking about the program in general. This has been a bad program over our history and he was j...

Re: If people are emailing the BOT

Just a question... are the BoT permanently there for life? Can they be replaced or fired?
They are appointed for 6 year terms by the Governor. No, the Governor cannot remove them at will.

Re: "This is the best team I've had since I arrived in Laram

Of course Burman knows football success is important, and sees the same things we see. He runs the entire athletic department, though...he doesn't recruit football players nor coach them. And he's not a miracle worker. DC was, by all consensus, a good hire. It's gone south now. The firing of DC will...

Re: 15,700

15.7K is a f-word joke. Our fanbase sucks. We are just a couple dozen of die-hards. We don't represent the normal fan base in any way. I don't know the fanbase "sucks." It's just not a football state. We're so spread out, and there's not really a football culture...the kind where a signif...

Re: Sports Evaluation Findings

They didn't mention our school colors as a negative... Well, they did the passive "some may view UW's colors as a hindrance," or something like that, which is consultant-speak for "you've got an issue there." There is a reason the color brown does not pervade uniforms in college...

Re: Sports Evaluation Findings

One thing that I thought was particularly interesting was the point about transferring credits into Wyoming as a recruiting issue. That strikes me as potentially a campus-wide problem. As I recall, this was mentioned along with creating easier majors. It makes sense, as there are essentially two co...

Re: Dean Easton steps down

Don't know the details either, but if the article is to be believed this was a flat-out resignation, not a firing couched in terms of a resignation. Easton is quoted as saying that Sternberg and the trustees wanted to set up an advisory committee to evaluate aspects of the law school..and both Stern...

Re: I get the feeling

Why do we have to endure the rest of the season to let Burman go? Because an AD isn't judged by a couple of bad football games. An AD is responsible for all sports, a marketing operation, raising funds, external relations, negotiating various contracts, and compliance with one metric ton of NCAA re...

It certainly makes me wonder what it takes to get his $100k bonus. $336k in Laramie - unbelievable.
You ought to see what new trucks cost in Laramie, too. It's almost like it's a national market, and we don't get to buy things more cheaply than everyone else. So unfair.

Re: Sternberg raising some issues

The consultant was hired some time ago. The hiring had nothing to do with the CSU game. It's a good move, and a standard one, for a new president to get a third party's view of athletics. The academic side of the house generally doesn't, and shouldn't, have expertise on how to run what are essential...

Re: Burman

Admirable passion, which is great. But to get a lot better relatively quickly, given where we are in the scheme of college athletics, we need two thing: 1. A lot more money, and 2. Lower academic standards. That's not going to happen so, as many of you suggest, we have to focus on incremental changes.
