https://twitter.com/mikevorel/status/506447754323709953 Vorel: Running game will decide Wyoming's game vs. Air Force

One-dimensional is about to hit a whole new level.

Inside War Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Wyoming's newly unveiled pro-style offense leaned heavily -- almost entirely -- on its running game. Junior Shaun Wick and redshirt sophomore D.J. May carried the load, combining for 230 rushing yards and the Cowboys' only two touchdowns on the day.

Quarterback Colby Kirkegaard, on the other hand, sputtered. The redshirt senior finished only 13 of 21 for 92 passing yards, while also throwing an interception and losing a fumble. His most consistent contributions came before the snap, when Kirkegaard repeatedly diagnosed the Montana defense, aligned his protection appropriately and put his team in a play that had a chance to be successful.

Wyoming quarterback knows he must improve (WyoSports.net)

LARAMIE – Colby Kirkegaard didn’t want to grade himself.

All that mattered to the University of Wyoming’s senior quarterback was the Cowboys’ 17-12 season-opening win over Montana on Saturday afternoon at Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium.

Kirkegaard made only his second-career start, and first since 2012. After a good start where he was 7 of 8 for 48 yards in the first quarter, Kirkegaard finished 13 of 21 for 92 yards with an interception in the end zone and a lost fumble.

Gazette.com: Air Force takes lessons from early problems in opening victory

Air Force may have run away with its opener against Nicholls State, but there were enough tense moments early to give the Falcons a legitimate look at its revamped defense.

And not all that was shown was positive.

In the first half, before Nicholls State wilted in a 44-16 defeat, the Colonels posted six plays of at least 10 yards, including three that went for more than 20 yards. Nicholls State answered Air Force's first touchdown with a 75-yard, seven-play drive that took just 2 minutes, 54 seconds and its time of possession in the first half was 6 seconds more than that of Air Force. During one stretch, Colonels quarterback Kalen Henderson completed 5 of 8 passes for 85 yards.

Remember last season that when Wyo destroyed AFA they were doing AFA game prep every Thursday regardless of who the opponent was.

Just showing yet again how DC wanted to say "f-word you" to Calhoun instead of prepare his team the best way possible for all the other games.

Also, even though Kagilis knows AFA and the blocking schemes they use, he was on the offensive side of the ball, but by know he should know what to do.

This game should be old school. Run the ball, and play defense.
If you ever need to laugh, just remember there was some idiot who wanted Bohl fired after 2 seasons.

We actually had several chances at INTs, just could not hang on to them.
