Stating the obvious: In order to compete for MWC divisional/conference titles in the future, Bohl and staff need more talent (their type of players), speed and depth. That's quite apparent at this point. I've been keeping an eye on the Rivals.com recruiting database to see how WYO compares with the rest of the MWC in terms of 2015 recruiting classes leading up to February. First of all, it's easy to take these recruiting websites and their evaluation methods/calculations with a grain of salt (coaches will smirk at the thought), but here is how Wyoming is faring so far:

1) Currently, Wyoming has 11 verbals. Only SJSU (20) and SDSU (12) have more commitments right now. Bath is doing a great job in Oklahoma with three or four Top-30 commits right now. Wyoming has more OK commitments than any other school in the country right now:
https://twitter.com/WyoCoachBurns/statu ... 1828871168 https://twitter.com/CoachBath/status/525307488183140352 2) Rivals.com points rankings: Wyoming is currently fourth in terms of class evaluations. Only SJSU, SDSU and Boise are ahead of them.

3) Average number of stars per verbal (the stat I would personally take most seriously): Wyoming is 5th at 2.25 stars per verbal.

Recruiting is the lifeblood of the program. Let's hope the staff can kick it into high gear in the years ahead.

Personally I prefer this recruiting site:

http://wyoming.scout.com/a.z?s=367&p=9&c=4&yr=2015

And although they all (Rivals & Scout in particular) have issues - and can be a garbage in / garbage out, I like the way Scout allows you to rack & stack, and review recruits by position. I also think Rivals is very biased as far as rating, depending on the school the kid goes to...which shouldn't effect rating at all.
Dear Karma,

I have a list of people you missed...

And we have the All Time National Rusher out of Missouri. Based on stats.

Recruiting has tailed off since TCU, Utah, BYU left. Only Boise State is in contention for and actually landing 4-Star players. Brett Rypien (4-Star QB) already signed and will enroll early. Everyone else is way off Boise's recruiting power right now. Right now it's Boise alone in tier 1, SDSU and SJSU in tier 2, and everyone else after that. Curious to see if SJSU will actually become a top MW program with these solid recruiting classes.

Recruiting ranking are fine and dandy, but won't win any games. Dax Crum anyone?

The ranks are never perfect, but they are often a GREAT indicator of a team's talent level. The Top 3 offensive players in the MW, Fajardo (35th overall ranked QB in his class), Grayson (22nd overall ranked QB in his class), and Ajayi (Parade All-American recruit) were all solid recruits. Brett Smith was one of Wyoming's highest rated high school recruits in the last decade. Sure, Adam Pittser is proof that the rankings aren't flawless...but again, they are often a good indicator of where an overall team's talent is. Kellen Moore, Derek Carr, Colt Brennan...all 4-Star recruits. The list goes on. Flawless? No. Overall accurate? Absolutely.

SJSU landed a recruit that picked the Spartans over UCLA, Arizona State, and Cal! Another big haul for SJSU. Boise, SDSU, and SJSU are separating themselves from the MW in recruiting, there is no doubt about that.

Brett Rypien is still the conference's top recruit though.

Gene Bleymaier will likely get SJSU into a power. Him combined with Cali recruiting is a scary thought. A good example of a competent AD.

Insults are the last resort of fools with a crumbling position.

They might be getting the big name recruits, but look who got NPOW honors this week.
You can tell how big a person is by what it takes to discourage him/her.

Yep......little ole true freshman two star recruit Brian Hill. IMO, recruiting rankings are so far over the place they can't be trusted....unless the guy is a 4 or 5 star recruit. The key is development. And with the number of underclassmen we're playing, some kids are being developed quicker than others.

And if you can recruit intelligent and hardworking linemen (both sides) who gel as a unit and are coached properly, even less talented skill players will look like world beaters with a bit of proper instruction.

Generally agree. 4-star and above is a very solid bet at the MWC level. 3-star and 2-star assignments can be very arbitrary and vary by recruiting service. What's more important is offers. Now, that's always a little bit of a question mark, because the only measure of other offers is who the player says have offered and that is often not exactly black or white (staff may have verbally extended an offer, but you may really be a backup plan, or they may have said they will offer, etc.). Still, if you know a kid is getting P5 offers visits, or at least other MWC offers/visits, that's a good sign.

Right now Boise State is the only MW school getting commits from kids with multiple Power-5 offers. In fact, all of their commits do. Rypien is a rare star recruit committing to a non-P5 program, and a major haul at that. Special football player. SDSU and SJSU do a great job as well, but not *all* of their commits have P5 offers.

Never seen so many commits this early. That's a great sign that Bohl and Staff really good at what they do. Very excited to see this incoming class.

Yep, the total MWC commitment numbers have changed slightly since this thread was first posted, but the point is that recruits are buying in to what Bohl and staff are selling -- relatively speaking. You have to be pleased with the results so far.

Let's kick USU's ass tomorrow night on national TV and get a few more solid kids onboard. :thumb:
