Hey, it is the offseason.

After watching Urban Meyer succeed at anywhere he goes, do you think he could be NFL material or do you think his style/system would only be successful in college?

Nick Satan tried the NFL and bombed pretty hard. Some guys are meant to be college coaches only.

A better analogy would be Jimmy Johnson.

Definitely agree, but I'm not sure where Urban would be? Great college, terrible pro or great college and great pro?

Pete Carroll failed in the NFL then went back to USC then went to the NFL again.

Urban hasn't been an NFL head guy yet.
If you ever need to laugh, just remember there was some idiot who wanted Bohl fired after 2 seasons.

I have heard conflicting reports on whether or not Urban would entertain the idea of heading to the NFL.

Kyle Gunther, a former player at the U with Urban, says Urban has 0 desire to leave the college game. Urban has had health issues in the past and the NFL is a whole new level.

THEN

Brady Poppinga, obviously a former NFL player, claimed on the radio that when he won a Superbowl in 2010 that Urban was on the field and said to Brady, "Man, I would love to give this a try." Meaning, coaching in the NFL.

Soooo....short answer, who knows.

I respect him as being a great college coach, but my interaction I saw when he was here in Utah I wasn't impressed with him. Let's not forget that the initial Utah/Wyoming onside kick BS by Whittingham happened in 2004 with Urban too. He has always pulled that kind of crap (ie, punching another td in the other night). He is wired differently.

According to Gunther, his former player, Urban never slept. Never spent time with family. Never had hobbies. Literally would be engulfed in football 24-7.

Saban didn't bomb in the NFL.. he wasn't there long enough before Alabama offered him WAY more money to coach there rather than Miami.

Not to mention that Miami is not exactly the best barometer for a coach's ability. That team has largely been a wreck since Marino left.

Same story I've heard about Saban, he is football every waking minute. I suppose if you create that successful of a dynasty it makes sense that you are over committed.

DJM...I really don't see the issue with Urban making it a 3 score game the other night. It's the national championship game... why leave even a .1% chance that the other team can come back? Make that .1 a complete 0.

Actually, the only true way it would have been 0% is to take a knee those last few plays inside the 5. Oregon was out of timeouts, they would have juiced almost the entire clock and still been able to kick a FG.
