Collegiate Commissioners will vote this week on whether or not to institute an early signing day for high school seniors.

From the article it appears that the proposal is expected to pass. The signing period would be 72-hours long starting on December 16 of this year (same date as JC transfers sign).

I like this for a number of reasons:
1) The less time our commits have to get snagged by another program, the better;
2) Harder for larger programs (I.E. Alabama) to over-sign which means trickle down effect; better players available late;
3) Easier to focus recruiting needs - "now that we've signed all the LBs and WRs we need, we can use the next 2 months to focus on our other needs";
4) If you get half your recruiting done 2 months earlier, that saves time and money that can be used to recruit elsewhere.

I see it as a win-win for a program like Wyoming. The only problem I have with it is I would want it even earlier, maybe same day as Basketball early signing period, November 11.

Yep, all non-P5's would benefit from an early signing period. No more "wait until January to really recruit, then poach" approach from the P5 programs.

Commissioners decided to table the vote until next year.

Kinda disappointing, I was hoping this would pass; I truly think this would help the UW's of the world...hopefully next year.
