Lastly...not hanging the dude out to dry, far from it. But damn, when did it not become ok to express an opinion about something on a message board? My opinion of Holmgren, is that he is no Vorel. And it isn't even close at this point.
Your biggest beef seems to be that, unlike Vorel, Holmgren doesn't limit his Twitter to only work.

MW days were Tuesday and Wednesday. All of the other stuff you have a problem with was Friday through Monday, on his own time. Tuesday and Wednesday, he tweeted 29 times, all of them pertaining to UWyo athletics.

You have every right to express your opinion. I don't think anyone has told you otherwise. But we have the same opportunity to express our opinion about what you wrote.

Lee is a crap company always looking to cut corners. Before you hang the new guy out to dry you may want to consider the scope of the situation. Not to mention he is probably getting paid $29,000 a year and you guys apparently want him to work 90 hour weeks.
I am sure they are going to tell him that. Makes all the sense in the world. "Hey, we are going to pay you $29,000 a year, as a salaried and benefitted employee, but please work less, so we don't have to give you a raise or any accolades (and we certainly don't want to get any value or productivity out of your salary or job performance)." LMAO.
In the current newspaper industry, nothing would surprise me when it comes to saving money. Not even that.

That being said, he's probably a salaried employee, so it'd be more about him not wanting to overwork himself if he's still getting paid the same amount. Some people want a life outside work. To others work is their life.

Like others have said, Vorel is a different animal. You don't just get a job as beat reporter for Notre Dame football if you're not.

I think that the initiator of this thread was simply pointing out was that there has been a significant drop-off in overall UW related content from the time Vorel left for South Bend and Holmgren arrived from...I forgot where he came from.

Anyhow, to dispute the point is pretty ridiculous if one is to be objective.

I never expected the next guy coming in after Vorel to match his workaholic pace, however (and I mentioned this to Ryan when he was on my show) Holmgren had to know that he was following a writer who most of us loved and hated to see leaving, primarily because of the incredibly deep Wyoming coverage he disseminated for us on a regular and consistent basis.

I'd be being dishonest if I didn't feel as though Holmgren could be doing a better job and his coverage could be much better -- I thought it would be above what we've seen thus far.

Vorel was unique. It was like he got out of bed each morning and all that was on his mind was trying to find something (anything) interesting to write about the Pokes that we as readers would find appetizing. Vorel was a one man and non-stop content machine -- who never seemed to be satisfied with yesterday's work.

I like Ryan, I've enjoyed some of his stuff to date - but as I said yesterday, its my feeling he should pick it up a bit more.

Also, for those trying to argue that the CST would have to pay Holmgren more if he wrote more, this is simply not true. Holmgren is under contract (or some kind of an agreement) and he gets paid a salary no matter how much, or how little, he writes.

Put it this way. When Vorel became established I would go to his columns and stories before I'd head over to check out Gagliardi and the WTE sports section. Now its the other way around, I'll go read Gags first, then read Holmgren.

It's all subjective in how one sees it I guess...

Vorel knew what the hell he was doing. He was going to be the best damn beat writer he could while at Wyoming and was waiting for the big job.

Saw Van Halen a few weeks ago at Red Rocks. If you are a fan, the show was fantastic. And I'll disagree with your statement. If you came along later, Sammy might be your thing.....it's just a tamer version.

See me in my UW gear?

As far as the debate...anyone that knows there ass from a hole in the ground realizes these are 2 different (and really 3 or 4 different) bands with some common parts. They all had / have their positives IMO, I enjoyed them all (with the exception of Gary Cheron - WTF)...and nobody is as talented on the guitar as EVH. Nobody.

Wyoming was well represented that night......I saw a few guys and gals with Poke gear. We were in row 24 and two Wyoming guys in front of us....probably row 15 or so.

It was a great show. David actually sounded good and Eddie was playing well. 2nd time I've seen VH....and have seen Sammy twice. Once during the I Can't Drive 55 Tour at the Casper Event Center. And again, with David Lee Roth, at Fiddler's Green. Both guys played all their Van Halen songs with their own bands. I like Sammy, but David Lee Roth is Van Halen.

Good to see Ryan is staying on top of things and checks in with this board frequently.

Love your work of late, Ryan, keep the hits coming.

Meh. You took the brown acid.

This is the equivalent of when McPeachy states that Mohammed Ali was the best fighter of all times. And then ragtimejoe1 brings up Rocky Marciano.

Kid is a beat writer at a small daily in Wyoming. I've never worked for Lee, but I doubt he's salary if he's not management. He probably works 60 hours a week and is only allowed to claim 40, paid between $13-17 an hour and has an editor yelling at him if he even thinks about putting in OT.

And no, his managers aren't dissuading him from doing good work to avoid giving him a raise. This is the newspaper biz. He could win a Pulitzer and Lee still wouldn't give him a raise.
