All jokes aside. UTEP just got a good coach. Had Wyoming been able to keep Dimel, Mitsakis, and Koenning together, things would have been very different in the late 90's-2000's
I'm good for 3!
Dimel got out when he did for a reason. I don't think we were set for good seasons if he'd stayed.

Umm...what? Mitsakis and Koenning were both good coordinators I believe (especially Vic), but they absolutely emptied the cupboard in the program.
In 1996 Joe Tiller led UW to a 10-2 record and a Top 25 ranking (and played Top 10 BYU to a virtual standstill in the WAC Championship game..Punt the ball Joe!..RIP). In 2000, Vic Koenning led Wyoming to a 1-10 record which actually understates just how terrible they were.
While it is true that Tiller was a much better coach than Vic, the biggest difference was the talent. Dimel's staff did a terrible job of recruiting and player development and left the cupboard bare in what had been a strong competitive program for the better part of 20 years.
Dimel's teams also had a Bohl-esque ability to completely collapse at the end of the season. The SJSU loss this year is hard to top, but if there is anything worse it is Dimel's 98 and 99 teams. The 98 team reached 8-1 after a huge Border War victory in Fort Collins. I believe they were ranked after that game. They wouldn't score another touchdown the rest of the year and would lose to AFA 10-3 and then 35-0 to a 3-7 Tulsa team to close the season. The 99 team would have won a share of the inaugural MWC title with a win at 4-6 SDSU to close the season. They lost 39-7, the beginning of a 40 game stretch in which we would win a grand total of 6 games.

After a rough offensive year like this year, I keep wondering if bringing back Mitsakis and the triple shoot wouldn't solve some of our problems. It's a rare offense, it can be ran at fast-tempo or slow-tempo. I donno.
