Cowboys knock off San Jose State 80-70 for first conference road win (trib.com)

"The team has been talking about it," said sophomore forward Jordan Naughton, a Southern California native. "Every time we come to California, it’s kind of like bad luck. But we got rid of it today."

"We had an inside-out game plan," Naughton said. "And if we can’t get the ball to drop outside the 3-point line, we have to have something else to rely on and score in different ways, instead of always relying too heavily on our 3s."

Looks like they're team bags. I'm betting that they have clothes, toiletries, and all game gear that isn't the jersey and shorts for their uniform. Practice gear, too.

Sophomore Jordan Naughton dunks Wyoming to strong start in San Jose State win (trib.com)

"We practice that all the time," Naughton said. "Dunk everything, and make sure you’re being aggressive on both ends of the floor."

"In that game, yeah, it was a pretty good stretch," said Naughton, who also missed a dunk during that time. "I was trying to bring energy, not necessarily scoring, but I felt like we got stops at that time, too. When we do that and we get stops and we get scores, we can come back and take the lead."

They're flying back to San Jose after the game? That seems odd.

Wyoming men's basketball seeks to win on road again at New Mexico (trib.com)

Wyoming's second-leading scorer, Hayden Dalton, sat the second half of the San Jose State game because of an ankle injury. Edwards did not know the status going forward for Dalton, a junior forward averaging 12.8 points and a team-high 8.3 rebounds per game.

"He kind of tweaked his ankle, and I think (trainer Lance Schuemann) said he was going to try, just test him out as the second-half warmups occurred, but Hayden gave him the no, he couldn’t do it," Edwards said Wednesday after the game. "I’m not sure how bad it is right now. I’ll probably talk to Lance here before we get on the bus, but we’ve got a good day before we take on New Mexico, so hopefully everything will be OK."

Wyoming at New Mexico men's hoops Q&A with Geoff Grammer of the Albuquerque Journal (WyoSports.net)

What do you see as the key matchups in Saturday's game with Wyoming, and who wins?

New Mexico has been real bad defending the 3-pointer this season. Wyoming has shot, by far, the most 3-pointers of any MW team.

Wyoming's McManamen doing things to help during shooting slump (WyoSports.net)

“There’s a game plan teams have of not wanting (McManamen) to shoot,” first-year UW coach said. “He’s not forcing shots up. I have no issue with the shots he’s taken.

Men’s basketball: Wyoming has really picked up the pace (Albuquerque Journal)

“I think the biggest thing was you had to win 55-53,” Lobos coach Craig Neal said of playing past Wyoming teams. “I think we had really close games since I’ve been here (four of past five went to overtime). Different that way. The unique thing is they’re giving up 80 points in conference play, (but) they score a lot of points.”

For UNM, scoring help for Tim Williams (18.4 points per game) and Elijah Brown (17.4) is always the key.

“They drive a hard bargain at you no matter what you do,” said Boise State coach Leon Rice. “You’ve got to kind of pick your poison a bit, and now what’s making them really good is those other guys are getting the job done now, too.”

Wyoming men's basketball can't break through in loss at New Mexico (trib.com)

The half’s second tie came at 49-all on an Alan Herndon 3, but a decisive 11-2 New Mexico run gave the Lobos their biggest lead of the half.

Dalton, Wyoming's leading rebounder and second-leading scorer, was on the bench with three fouls during the run.

"It was tough being on the bench," he said. "I needed a little rest at that point, but I always want to be out there helping my team as much as I can."
