https://twitter.com/Aztec_MBB/status/826129444209201152 * First the good news. Junior Malik Pope started for the first time in more than a month on Saturday. The forward, who has missed nine games this season due to a knee injury, scored a team- and season-high 19 points and added a team- and season-high seven rebounds. He was 7-of-12 from the floor and added two assists in 22 minutes of action.

* Now the bad news. Sophomore Zylan Cheatham is suffering from a stress reaction in his foot and was unable to play last Saturday. The Aztecs third leading scorer (10.3) and leading rebounder (6.5) on the season is questionable for Tuesday.

Home floor has provided huge lift for Air Force despite low attendance (The Gazette)

At Clune Arena, the Falcons are 10-3 with wins over Fresno State, San Diego State and Utah State in Mountain West play and Missouri State (14-9) in non-conference action.

The Cowboys figure to bring some of their own fans, both because of a large number of local supporters and with Colorado Springs native Alan Herndon returning to town. The Widefield graduate scored 15 points with seven rebounds in an 84-72 victory over the Falcons in Laramie, Wyo., on Dec. 28. A junior, he is averaging 10.2 points and 6.2 rebounds this season.

Cowboys find their shooting touch in win over Air Force (trib.com)

"After watching our game against them the first time, we just looked so much more free and more assertive within transition," head coach Allen Edwards said. "Pushing, attacking and getting shots. And my thing to our guys was we had to get back to playing that way, that brand of basketball while not losing what we established defensively."

"Selfishly, me coming back to my hometown, I tried to definitely do a little something something," Herndon said. "These guys definitely try to get me the ball and I appreciate them for it."

Despite injury, Jeremy Lieberman sets career high in Air Force win (trib.com)

“I felt great,” Lieberman said. “My teammates were finding me, and Coach is always saying, ‘On balance, let it go,’ and I did that.”

Lieberman hit his first three shots of the game, two 3-pointers and a 2-point jumper, to help Wyoming to a 15-5 lead. Then he injured his right hand and left the game about halfway through the first half.

“I just dove on the floor for a loose ball,” he said. “Hand just gave out. It just went numb. It started tingling, and I saw (trainer Lance Schuemann). He fixed me up, and I got back out there.”

https://twitter.com/rpgagliardi/status/ ... 2913928193 “We’ve been harping on it,” said first-year UW coach Allen Edwards on the turnovers by James this season. “The thing with Justin is he’ll continue to get better. Sometimes he tries to rely on talent, and that’s where he gets into trouble. Sometimes it may not be the ultimate respect for guy guarding him.”

Who said they weren't an issue? James and Dalton need to clean that area up at times, but they both do MANY MORE things well on the court that do (and don't) show up in the stats. Both should be in the top three in average minutes per game.

Savvy?
