Question for the old guard, have we always reported (recorded number) tickets sold as opposed to butts in the seat? I know it has been that way for awhile, but I couldn't remember if it has always been like that?

Thought it was done by the tickets that were scanned.

I thought perhaps it used to be, but for sure, in recent years, it has been tickets sold. I was wondering if we've really made a switch, or if we've always reported tickets sold?fromolwyoming wrote:Thought it was done by the tickets that were scanned.
Article discussing it near the end of DC's tenure:

They report tickets sold which includes all season tickets. Never ever do places announce tickets scanned - majority of sell-outs aren't true sell-outs because not everyone shows up to games who has the season ticket and whatnot.

I have no idea why I assumed it was tickets scanned. However it can really mislead true attendance tends.Wyo2dal wrote:Ya they go by tickets sold because of season ticket holders, If they went by scanned tickets lots of programs would have lower attendance.

They do scan student WYOne cards at the gates. I am sure athletics has exact student attendance numbers based off of those scans.laxwyo wrote:They'd have to count students by scanner somehow.

That wasn't the question. The question was did we always do this?VisorHair wrote:They report tickets sold which includes all season tickets. I don't know when we changed to counting tickets "sold"...but we have actually had 2 other ways of reporting attendance that I am actually aware of.ragtimejoe1 wrote:That wasn't the question. When I was a youngster - it was turnstile...actual bodies - whatever the numbers added up to from the gates. Later it was tickets scanned (when they went to scanners), which didn't include player & coach passes, band, staff, etc. It was a mess...I watched the fine scanning folks scan one guy that had 10 tickets but was by himself, and I watched them blow off tickets that didn't scan or go through. Now I guess it is tickets sold? So why scan still? But that still wouldn't include player & coach passes, band, staff, etc.
Tickets sold is a beneficial way of reporting attendance to conference mates SDSU, CSU, UNLV, etc., as we all know they hardly have (on hand) their announced attendances. Kind of pisses me off actually, as they report these big numbers, and the venues look empty.
Dear Karma,
I have a list of people you missed...

Thanks, McPeachy. I was wondering if we changed at some point. I wonder when we changed to tickets sold?McPeachy wrote: I don't know when we changed to counting tickets "sold"...but we have actually had 2 other ways of reporting attendance that I am actually aware of.
