So far, he lands a lot of kids with very few FBS offers (some none). Hope he can hold onto C.J. Johnson.laxwyo wrote:I just don't think Bohl can bring players that are any better than the ones DC brought. We basically take any kid that will say yes to us.
SJSU Game Thread
It only seemed that in the last quarter did the team start to play with some urgency. But that might be because the playbook got opened up. The Kirk Man only does what he is told by the OC. Unfortunately the OC has not seemed to tune the offence to what he does well ( unfortunately, not much).
But a previous poster has it right. It looks like 0 - 5 the rest of the way, so it is time to give the frosh and sophs some big time minutes and not worry about the spread in the drubbings to come.

Well, look what he did with those players at NDSU. He turned them into a juggernaut that steamrolls through FCS and contends with schools like K-State and bitch slaps schools like Iowa State. Give him a few recruiting classes and years of development in order to actually see where he is taking the team instead of basing him on DC's team that he inherited.laxwyo wrote:I just don't think Bohl can bring players that are any better than the ones DC brought. That he's still building the team from the ground up. Come on man, we all knew at the beginning of the season that it would take a few years before we saw marked improvement across the board in terms of wins and losses.Adv8RU12 wrote:After Bohl's first championship it was fairly easy to recruit players who think they will be playing for a championship team. The 4th down completion from SJSU that was reviewed and confirmed with 2 minutes left. Did not the entire stadium see the replay of the ball coming out before the receiver was down and the WYO player ending up with the ball? I thought overall the refs called a good game, but that one had my head scratching.
Did it look different on TV?

Called it!
We're mid way through the first year of a rebuilding process, and now we're questioning if Bohl is the right guy for the job, bashing players and ready to get rid of Coordinators... And not even through one full season.
Everyone knew we had massive holes to fill, and seemed accepting of that, till now...
What i heard on the sidlines is interesting.I was sitting near the sidelines and after a poor drive the offense came over to the bench and I heard Wick completely unload on his Oline. He was screaming at them. I heard this from Wick " it's a 10-10 game and this game can be ours if you stop playing like a bunch of kitty and block". A lineman stood up and yelled back to Wick " dude you need chill". Chill? These guys don't seem to give a damn. I drive 160 miles to watch my Cowboys win and the line wants everyone to chill. I was shocked at that comnent, but it tells me the losing attitude is not gone. Some players would rather chill I guess. That pissed me off and now I understand why their are certain positions that don't give a poop and it shows.

I'm hoping that Bohl can truly find some diamonds and perhaps over the years, the chill mentality will be weeded out.
It's truly sad that the whole reason to have a good running game is to open up passing. Teams are loading up the box (just like you want) and we can't burn them. Frustrating

It's not necessarily the talent you bring, but how it's balanced and how you shape it. I don't think DC could get a starving wolf to follow him if he was wearing a meat vest once it got to know him. Most of the guys who spent three or four years under him are now, for lack of a better term, damaged goods. Now, on the defensive side, I don't think DC had a clue as to how to coach defensive talent of any level.J-Rod wrote:So far, he lands a lot of kids with very few FBS offers (some none). Recruiting's a pump-prime-and-pump kind of scenario. Unless your name's Saban, Miles, Spurrier, etc., and you're coming from a B1G, Big 12, PAC 12, or NFL program to take over another one, you are not going to automatically draw three and four star talent. You have to do more with less, which, once success builds, draws that higher tier of talent to a program.

As an example, David Cobb, arguably the Gophers' best player, had offers from North Texas, Texas State and Memphis when they picked him up.
The number of stars or the teams recruiting don't determine a player's college success.
Heck, the guy Wyo fans were (and some still are...) drooling over the past three years was down to a Division II offer before Wyoming called.

It is not an exact science, but the best teams get the best recruits. Period. Arguably the three best non-P5 QBs in the last 10 years...Kellen Moore, Derek Carr, and Colt Brennan were all 4-Star QBs.joshvanklomp wrote:As an example, David Cobb, arguably the Gophers' best player, had offers from North Texas, Texas State and Memphis when they picked him up.

Because then they'd burn a whole year of eligibility, and I think Bohl is thinking that playing Kirkegaard is in the best long-term interests of the team. At least that's what I hope he's thinking.Asmodeanreborn wrote:In all honesty, why keep playing Kirk at this point. This was one of the easiest games remaining and he was terrible. We're not going anywhere anyway, so why not let one of the younger guys try?
