Just heard on the news that phase 2 of renovations is delayed because bids came in too high, lack of funding?
What the hell?

Shocker. Design has been altered several times including scaled back. Still can't pay for it. Now it is postponed for another year. How about eliminating any club area or suites?! Not needed. Then sell beer and we have the construction fully funded.

Looks like no club seating. I was not a huge fan of this, anyway, because of the reduced capacity.

So what? People never fill it to it's max capacity anyways, and the club seating would make it look nice instead of just a huge room.LanderPoke wrote:Looks like no club seating. I was not a huge fan of this, anyway, because of the reduced capacity.
I bet the issue is that those lower bowl season ticket holders that show up for 1 game a year decided even they didn't want to fork out money for the suites if they were only going to use them 1 time per season and then there was no money for the suites.
If you ever need to laugh, just remember there was some idiot who wanted Bohl fired after 2 seasons.

I don't know if it's the case in Wyoming, but in Minnesota a lot of stadium projects that are split into two phases rarely make it to the second phase. It's split into two phases so it's easier to get the funding, but it's like the second phase is forgotten.
I said it sucks.....to be.....a CSU Ram! #GoWyo

Here is the lowdown folks:
There are three main issues why the projects has been delayed.
1. Other on campus projects are over budget mainly the Fine Arts project at the tune of 9m. The AA Plase II was projected to be 3m over budget.
2. With all the development on the front range there are very few contractors available for such work thus their rates have risen.
3. With 1 and 2 in mind the design of the renovations on the OUTSIDE where redesigned to meet a cheaper budget (the inside plans remain the same). The big time donors and the state legislature did not like the altered designs so the project is being delayed so we can get a design the donors and state like that meets

Phase 1 took it on the chin, and had to be reworked on the fly. Not necessarily in the bowels of the AA (locker-rooms, weight room, etc.) but the seating got jacked. There was more seating lost than anticipated, etc., etc.
Then the reseating process, which was about as poorly done as it could have been. Not including the new seat premiums as a revenue source of course. And not one person was held accountable for it. Not one person. How does this happen? Rhetorical question.
Now this, which some knew would happen. Phase 2 is fully off the agenda, for at least this year if not many more - maybe forever as it originally was planned. Money isn't going to fall into the state's lap the next few years (oil, gas, coal). But yet, the excuses are that the state and major donors couldn't agree &/or didn't like it. Excuses. Where, really is the ownership of this bitch?
Point being...this is a direct reflection of piss poor management (again) from our athletics department. Piss poor. Hey Doc - you need another / more examples, here you go...

There is an oxymoron for you!ragtimejoe1 wrote:To be determined budget means to be determined projects.
Anyone curios where our strategic plan is heading?
Interesting. Sucks that it is delayed but I would rather take the time and try to secure the extra funding than half ass it. Need to get someone(donor/state)to step up and fund the extra money. For how much they are already planning on spending 3 more million doesn't sound like much more.Wicks wrote:Here is the lowdown folks:

Styme - can you imagine what it would cost to build a new one these days?stymeman wrote:shouldn't surprise anyone, shoulda just scrapped and built a whole new one, might have went faster/better, cheaper...Tom's probably backtracking alot
That is why I always bitch about half-assing anything. Because at some point, it will catch up with you, and bite you right on the ass.

Because I'm too lazy to go looking for it, anyone know off the top of their head what the total cost was for the recent War renovations, the recent AA renovations, and the planned AA renovations?

Seems to me this is just a speed bump with the AA, this project will get done because it is a priority for the University and the State.
There is another major project in the pipeline as well with the RAC 2.0 that has been given matching funds by the state and construction could start as early as this Fall if enough money is raised in the summer. So don't take the phase II AA news as the state and university have no vision, the project was priced out in 2010 and 2011 and prices have gone up significantly since then.
The sky is not falling and UW is better off facility wise than most MW schools at this point with the investments being made.
