My bad. Hard to tell sometimes, especially with the way a lot of people have been on here.laxwyo wrote:I was being sarcasticfromolwyoming wrote:And how many people here ripped on him for leaving early?laxwyo wrote:Worked well for AA
First of all Hill is the definition of Cowboy tough. He is without a doubt one tough son of bitch. Second, HILL has NFL potential which is the key word here. Hill has a lot to work on, primarily his blocking which quite frankly isn't very good.joshvanklomp wrote:Except the fact that Hill has NFL talent.Adv8RU12 wrote:Right. Couldn't agree more cutt. He might even be considered a terrible blocker. If he was as willing to get as dirty blocking for his qb as he is when he runs, he'd be a lot better. Looks like he barely tries to stop themCuttslam wrote:First of all Hill is the definition of Cowboy tough. He is without a doubt one tough son of bitch. Oh wait I get it. Because Brett and AA left early, Hill is doomed to fail like them?
Gotcha.
Because it's always Apples to Apples.

If you ever need to laugh, just remember there was some idiot who wanted Bohl fired after 2 seasons.

Well...in this case it IS apples to apples. However I do agree with you Beav in that I think Hill certainly has NFL talent and is good enough to leave early at the rate he is progressing.BeaverPoke wrote:Oh wait I get it. Because Brett and AA left early, Hill is doomed to fail like them?

Not quite Apples to Apples. Smith was yet another spread option QB. And one who got lost in the evaluation process in a season with a record number of non-seniors declaring for the draft, and something like 19 QBs in the draft.
AA needed to make money for his mom's health issues. Plus he graduated. He had his degree, and needed to help his family's financial situation. Did he need a big contract to do it? No, and that's why even hitting the NFL Practice squad pay rate for a few seasons was sufficient for what he needed.
He did what he had to do.
Smith got screwed by his own haste, and an unfortunate process.
Hill may have what it takes to get drafted and stay in the league for 3+ seasons.
Make the money before he takes any unnecessary punishment, because once he get to the NFL he will be taking that punishment for sure.

Neither of these guys have failed. They aren't NFL stars, but AA did make some cash and is not yet "out" of the game, and Smith is playing professionally, which gives him a chance to advance his career. Having said that, I don't blame any college athlete for leaving early. You're always one unlucky break (literally) from ending your career. Or, if your talent is "on the fence", a less than stellar senior season, and everyone forgets about you. Strike while it's hot.BeaverPoke wrote:Oh wait I get it. He's nowhere close to NFL-ready. Are you kidding? You're not running through App. State and Eastern Michigan defenders in the league. You've got to be able to pass block in the league. You've got to have top-tier vision for hitting cutbacks in the league. Why do you think Montee Ball is floating around as a free agent after being cut by the Broncos? The gap is ENORMOUS.
I think he's got a good shot at being drafted in a couple of years, but you guys are sincerely underestimating the physicality and speed of the NFL if you think Brian Hill is currently ready to play there. He'd be out in rookie minicamp like Smith.
The closest thing, from a physical and discipline standpoint, that Wyoming has had to a player being ready to leave early for the league was Gip. And even he would tell you that he made the right decision coming back for his senior season - he probably wasn't ready as a junior, and the NFL turns on a dime. Who knows if he ever gets to where he has today if he had gone out early.

We haven't been watching the same games if you find Hill to be a bad blocker. I can name quite a few plays that if Hill wasn't in the backfield blocking Cam would have been sacked. Even the announcers give him props for being a smart back that knows how to pick up the blitz.Cuttslam wrote:First of all Hill is the definition of Cowboy tough. Our D was ranked fifth in the nation overall prior to yesterday's game. Brian Hill took care of that. Even dialed in on him, D's will have trouble stopping him. Saying he's a beast may be an understatement!Asmodeanreborn wrote:"Brian Hill rushed for 208 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries for Wyoming (0-5), the first opponent to rush for more than 200 yards against Appalachian State since 2005."
That part is at least pretty damn impressive.

UNM only stopped him because they kept loading the box with 9 guys, abandoning the pass essentially.AppFan82 wrote:Our D was ranked fifth in the nation overall prior to yesterday's game. Hill reminds me of AP. So, here's the question that o one wants to ask. If he continues on this path does he stick around for his senior year?

It's possible. Really depends on him and where his priorities lie.LanderPoke wrote:Hill reminds me of AP. So, here's the question that o one wants to ask. If he continues on this path does he stick around for his senior year?

Hate to say it but if Hill continues down this path we lose him early. Not sure if it will be to the draft out transferring to a school that can win but I just can't see someone with his potential hanging around.LanderPoke wrote:Hill reminds me of AP.
