I would actually rather not be an 8/9 seed anyways.
If 8 or9 I wonder if the Pokes could refuse and instead win the NIT (would be some home games)
This is the single dumbest take I've ever seen on this board, and that's saying something.
An NCAA tournament credit this year will be worth roughly $340,000. We'll get one credit for making the tournament. We'll get another for each win. We also KEEP GETTING THEM for 6 years after the tournament ends. Just making the tournament will net $2,040,000 over that six year period. Each game we win gets us another credit. That doesn't even take into account the intangible benefits a tournament run will give the University.
The NIT pays $4,000 for each game a team plays in, and they only pay it once.
Is an 8/9 seed ideal? I think we'd all like to see better. Should we give up $2,036,000 and go to the NIT instead? It's insulting to even answer that question.
This is something we agree on.
It would almost be like turning down a cfp spot to play in the New Mexico bowl
The BIg East right now is projected to get 8 teams in the dance. That means taking Seton Hall, currently 16-9, St. John's, currently 15-11, and Xavier currently at 17-9. Marquette is also in there with a current record of 17-10. While I understand they play some good basketball, any of those 4 teams I mentioned would struggle against Wyoming, CSU, BSU, and SDSU. There is certainly some bias built into the selection process, and it costs the mid-major conferences every year.
What is the difference between politicians and stoners? Politicians don't inhale...they just suck.
A big problem is signature wins for the MW...or lack thereof. The biggest non-conference win this year is arguably Utah State over Oklahoma or SDSU over Saint Mary's. Michigan beat down SDSU. Arizona beat down the Cowboys. Iowa beat down Utah State. Kansas beat down Nevada. I don't know of any top tier games that were even competitive. Not to mention most of us have weak schedules.
Other power conferences see the MW as being a group that beats up on each other but are not on the same level. If those cross-conference games were competitive, there would be much more buzz around the MW. I think we're getting better than should be expected attention...based on what the stat sheet says.

Way to cover your tracks after saying the dumbest thing imaginable. "I was just joking guys! Couldn't you tell?"
Either he was joking .... or there is a legitimate knowledge gap about the benefits of NIT vs NCAA tournament invites. Either way...I see no reason to insult. BTW...there probably is some sort of "devil's advocate" point of view that somebody could come up with to defend a deep NIT run vs an NCAA exit in the first round. I'm not saying it's correct....just saying it exists.

I was about to go off on a couple of "Linder lost the game" comments on another thread and decided I couldn't do it without making personal insults. Thanks for setting a good example, 307bball.
I am not convinced. I’ll be surprised if 3 from the MW go, and right now UW is behind Boise, CSU and SDSU in the rankings.
We need to win the MW and then it’s guaranteed. I don’t feel good about an “at-large” bid.
Yee of little knowledge.
Inform us. With your knowledge
Pokes in baring a total collapse.
What’s a total collapse? Losing to UNLV and SDSU? 2-2 in last 4 and we get an at large? Maybe if we get to finals in mw tourney. I think we’re in if go 3-1 over last 4 and win 1 or more in mw tourney

Losing 3 of 4 and a 1st game out in the MWC tourney.

So anything better than 23-9 gets us to the dance? Man, I wish I was as optimistic as you. I’m not sure 24-8 gets us in. Maybe 25-8

Pokes no worse than 25-6 and in the semi's I'm thinking.
Down to 45 in Net now. SDSU, Boise and CSU all in top 30. My guess is all 3 of them are in and we are now on the wrong side of the bubble.
I think we have at this point played ourselves out of the tournament and will have to play ourselves back in by winning 3 or 4 in a row here (the last 2 plus 1 or 2 in the tournament). If we drop either of the last 2 I think our net will drop into the 50s and we will have to win the mw tournament
