Literally the worst possible hire we could have ended up with other than Brian f*cking Ferentz.
End me.
New OC should be announced soon

He looks like an experienced hire , the kind of steady 2d in command a first year head coach would like to have by his side. I hope that Sawvel knows his own weaknesses and has brought in someone he trusts to help him in those areas.
Now lets see how the rest of the staff is either retained or replaced. That will be the true test.

Digging through his stats, he does better against weaker competition but just cannot hack it consistently at the P5 level and has fallen off hard through the years. There's a reason he's job-hopped laterally for almost a decade.
Additionally, yes, MSU has been a dumpster fire overall...but if you're celebrating hiring the OC of the statistically worst offense in college football, I don't know what to tell you. MSU's offense has been significantly worse than Wyoming's in multiple categories, and that's saying something.
P.S.: It's not just MSU fans extending their condolences.
Sawvell had an opportunity to show he was different from Bohl in the ONE area we needed massive improvement....and the first thing he does is call up the first unemployed buddy he can think of from his time in Minnesota. Lmfao.

I'd say the hire is perfectly in line with the established process and previous hires. Hopefully this all works out.
Interesting that 2 associate head coaches didn't receive a promotion. I hope some questions are asked.

Just out of curiosity, who, as the football genius you clearly are, did YOU have in mind for the job?DamThatRiver22 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 3:57 pm Literally the worst possible hire we could have ended up with other than Brian f*cking Ferentz.

Almost anyone else.
I wish I was joking.
Not sure why you're getting sh*tty with me when he's well known to be one of the worst established OCs in the country, lmao. Doesn't take a "genius" to point that out.
Edit: Would like to mention that I've sat here and defended both the Sawvell and Aaron Bohl promotions (in spite of some people being unhappy with them), so I'm not just some negative nancy like Ragtime that likes to just sh*t all over everything. I am allowed to have an opinion on an objectively bad offensive coordinator, especially when it's grounded in actual statistics as well as nearly universal feedback from fans of his recent teams.

It could have been Oscar Giles... which might have been a better hire lolragtimejoe1 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 5:35 pm I'd say the hire is perfectly in line with the established process and previous hires. Hopefully this all works out.

He had some good years before Michigan state and even had one good year with the Spartans. I’m hopeful. Welcome coach Jay!

Lol only my opinion matters and those that disagree are dumb, lmao.
You should get checked for narcissism.

Lol, says probably the most contrarian poster on this board. Lmao. (Also, might want to check your own signature and maybe heed your own advice.)
At least I bring actual facts, statistics, and sentiment from outside our little bubble to the conversation rather than just "feelings".
The entire college football world has been laughing at us over this hire all afternoon/evening...but sure, I'm the problem. lmao.
Do you have any actual input on this other than your typical vague backhanded platitudes, strawmen, sarcasm, and snipes? I'd much rather have actual football conversation than trade insults.

First, get a dictionary.
You didn't want to debate actual objective facts of Oscar vs Bohl in other thread. I think this whole damn hiring deal has several ssues. You think there's only 1 and somehow think only those that disagree with you are wrong.
For my sig? Just highlighting his class or lack thereof. That's his mo. Simply personally attack those that disagree with him.

I'm sure that is a joke. The obvious comparisons are Grant to this guy or Giles to Bohl.OrediggerPoke wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 7:21 amA guy that has spent his whole career coaching defensive line?ReecesRiver wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 9:13 pm

Jay Johnson national offensive ranks as OC:
At Louisiana (SBC)
2011 - 51st
2012 - 29th
2013 - 58th
2014 - 57th
2015 - 77th
At Minnesota (B1G)
2016 - 107th
At Colorado (Pac-12)
2019 - 83rd
At Michigan State (B1G)
2020 - 109th
2021 - 42nd
2022 - 97th
2023 - 128th
In case you're curious, the vast majority of his offenses ranked below Wyoming's, even against lesser competition..

What specific years did his offense BOTH rank below WYO AND against lesser competition. I'm only taking about this specific statement from you.DamThatRiver22 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 8:53 am

For the record I'm not saying anything about Johnson other than it certainly fits the hiring process at WYO. (We don't need to rehash this).

Today is the first day of classes. Shae Suiaunoa and Alex Brown appear to be the only two recognized on senior day to since announce their return.PokeNer wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 1:25 pm The rumor is Grant called plays in Tucson and it was his chance to prove himself and be considered for OC.
Hearing this guy is being considered:

Waylee is on the fence about entering the portal, and they hire would help keep him here.
Also, another rumor going around at the game is two big time D starters are going to announce their return. It’s not Shae since he announced. So maybe Gibbs and ?
No WR transfers known to be signed. They aren’t giving Svoboda much to worth with from all appearances.
