If looking swag is all that matters, maybe Wyoming should change their school colors to a more swag color scheme.
What? And just become another one of the 44 teams that uses a variation of red, or one of the 43 teams tha uses a variation of Blue, or maybe one of 13 others that use Black as it's main color, maybe one of the 11 that use a green variation, or one of the 8 that use Orange, maybe one of the 6 that currently use Purple. Or we can be one of only two that use Brown as a main color. And the only one that is BROWN and GOLD!

By the way the only other two schools to use brown... Western Mich and BGSU as a highlight.

In all actuality there are only 7 teams that are unique in color scheme.
1. WYO
2. Virg Tech- Maroon and Orange
3. LSU- Yellow and Purple
4. W. Mich- Brown and Black
5. KSU- Purple and silver
6. Clemson- Orange and purple
7. BGSU- Orange and Brown

I'd say that makes us special and gives us our own Swag.
I completely agree with you, just like I've agreed with you on the jerseys/helmets. Just pointing out how dumb the swag argument is.

If swag jerseys are the reason a recruit signs with Wyoming, Craig Bohl has done something wrong, because it means we aren't winning.

Color scheme has nothing to do with it. Wear this helmet with a gold jersey and brown pants, and you have yourself one of the most bad ass looks in college football. Lots can be done with brown and gold.

Oh! Yes.

I'm a fan of Taylor Haynes like I'm a fan of Tracy Ringolsby posting on message boards.

And there's no denying that this blue mug owning American cowboy HERO knows how to dress like a genuine, down home, for the people, cattle driving, honest to goodness, anti-BIG HIPPIE, Cowboy TOUGH cowboy... COWBOY. He's a cowboy.

If it weren't for his platform, I'd vote for this guy as many times as I possibly could. Why? Because f-word You that's why. And experience or not, I wouldn't be too sad if he became the next head sports* coach at the University of Wyoming (*non sport specific). He'd clean up this namby-pamby uniform debate with one swift, decisive decision. Oiled seal skin sleeveless tops colored BROWN (probably with tassles) with GOLD glittered snakeskin assless chaps. Helmets optional. You don't even have to ask why; you already know.

And Steamboat. That f-word is branded (not tattooed) onto each shoulder. You give your WORD as a commitment, then you stick up to it, like a Wyoming cowboy MAN. They'll always be Cowboys.

Your team wears those, it doesn't matter what happens on the field. You always WIN. As a tough COWBOY.

Spread the word. The next debate is July 29th and the next one after that is August 11th. Not sure on televised coverage yet but hot damn, I can't bloody wait.

Nobody said that it was THE REASON a recruit signs with Wyoming or not. WE ALL SAID IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE to some though, which it most certainly does. Holy poop.

Thank you.. think of them as a "tipping-point". They'll either push someone over the edge or defer them.

Can we at least agree that while the unis do make some difference (the amount of difference is up for debate), this entire thread makes absolutely no difference and we are all worse people for having participated?

Its quite a strawman. No one is claiming that kids come here or anywhere just because of uniforms. That is rediculous and correct that we wouldn't want a player like that. However, uniforms are ussually the first thing a potential recruit notices either on tv or in the material we send. So it makes sense to try and make a good impression. I like the new/old helmet but also see nothing wrong withhaving more options.

Disagree. The first thing a player notices is WINNING. None of them will care what's on their back if they're losing every week.

So you are saying we need to be a winning program first before we have multiple uniform combos??

Yes, winning is most important. But the whole argument against multiple uniforms is circular. There is no reason the team can't be a winning team and have multiple uniform combos which the players like and which recruits like.

Not exactly. I won't pretend to know how to run an FCS program. What I'm saying is that Bohl's focus on the things that seem to matter most is crucial. Right now, what matters most is changing the culture of this program. We need a mentality of winners. We need bodies that are faster and stronger. We need depth across the board.

What we don't need right now are players (or staff for that matter) worried about what they wear on Saturday afternoon.

We need to win. Consistently and often. Once we have that culture in place and results on the board, I'd be ok with the staff and players giving a little more time and effort to uniforms.

I get that uniforms are important fodder for message boards, and that they might sway a recruit who's on the fence. And that they are somewhat important to players. But right now, winning is what's important. I could care less what they're wearing, and think the majority of the players would agree as long as they're winning. Hence...

First things first.

Disagree. As someone who has worked in high schools outside of Wyoming and other MWC areas, these high schoolers don't even know Wyoming has a football program. If they do, they recognize the "gross brown and yellow" uniforms. The question as to whether or not we are good always comes after the uniform discussion.

So, unless the kid is familiar with the entire MWC (not just Boise & Fresno), whatever we send them is their first introduction to Wyoming football. They rarely see us on TV unless it's late at night and they are watching the two teams previously metioned pummel us and they don't know us because of our winning tradition (because we don't have one).

I agree that winning will ultimately change that, but we don't have that yet.

We are basically like a broke loser trying to get laid. It's hard enough as it is for the guy, make him wear clothes from the 1980s....impossible. He might be hitting the gym and changing his attitude, but that's gonna take time.

Which brings up my earlier point:
joshvanklomp wrote:If looking swag is all that matters, maybe Wyoming should change their school colors to a more swag color scheme.
I think the "gross" comment has more to do with the color scheme than the jerseys themselves. My alma mater has a similar color scheme (brown & "Vegas" gold), so I've heard all the punchlines. No matter what, there will be comments on the color scheme. New "swag" jerseys won't change that.

So are you willing to change the Cowboys' color scheme to appeal to a few football recruits?
