Gazette.com: Palmer graduate Rufran has seen big changes on offense as Wyoming receiver

Dominic Rufran tried not to judge too quickly, but entering his senior season as a receiver at Wyoming he certainly wasn't encouraged by what he was hearing from his new coach.

"I definitely had a lot of uncertainty," said Rufran, a Colorado Springs native and Palmer High School graduate who caught 75 passes for 960 yards and eight touchdowns last year. "I was like, 'Man, are we going to throw the ball at all? Or are we just going to pound, pound, pound?'"

Craig Bohl's offense is a massive departure from what Rufran had grown accustomed to with the Cowboys. The spread attack under Dave Christensen was gutted for a throwback style that Bohl ran as an assistant at Nebraska and at his wildly successful FCS program at North Dakota State.

https://twitter.com/PokesAuthority/stat ... 7340352512 Kirkegaard leads Wyoming to 17-13 victory over Air Force

For all of his inexperience, Wyoming quarterback Colby Kirkegaard showed the poise of a multi-year starter when it counted.

Trailing by three with 3 minutes, 25 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Kirkegaard engineered a 9-play, 75-yard drive that was capped by a 3-yard touchdown pass to J.D. Krill on third-and-goal and Wyoming rallied for a 17-13 win over Air Force in its Mountain West Conference opener on Saturday night in Laramie.

PASSING GAME

Wyoming redshirt senior quarterback Colby Kirkegaard completed 23 of 37 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday, including 73 passing yards and a touchdown on the final drive.

Perhaps more importantly, Kirkegaard did not commit a turnover, making smart decisions throughout the game.

“For an older guy, he certainly did [grow up in the final drive]," Bohl said of Kirkegaard. "Those are hard things to do, so we’ll build on that confidence. This is going to be a great momentum builder for us and for him personally.”

https://twitter.com/csgazette/status/508609998184665088 Gazette.com: Wyoming rallies to beat Air Force in final minute

LARAMIE, Wyo. -- Jalen Robinette said he’d go to bed in the early hours of Sunday morning thinking of the pass just beyond his fingertips that he failed to haul in for Air Force.

“It’s going to play in my head when I lay down,” Robinette said of the third-quarter play that saw him spring open for what would have been a huge gain had he stretched his arms out a bit farther. “It’s one of those plays that I’ve got to get it next time.”

There were a lot of plays like that for Air Force late Saturday night at Wyoming, as the offense kept the door open just enough for Wyoming to eventually barge through with a touchdown in the final minute for a 17-13 come-from-behind victory over the Falcons.

https://twitter.com/rgduckfootball/stat ... 6844462080 Denver Post: Final-minute TD strike sends Cowboys to win

LARAMIE — A history lesson on Wyoming football would underline that the Cowboys usually play hard right down to the bitter end.

The Cowboys lived up to their reputation Saturday night in War Memorial Stadium, handing the Air Force Falcons a bitter 17-13 loss that halted the Falcons’ recovery from a disastrous 2-10 season a year go.

Wyoming quarterback Colby Kirkegaard, who had bolstered the Cowboys throughout while playing second fiddle to Air Force’s Kale Pearson, had his moment on a third down, three-yard pass to senior tight end J.D Krill with 58 seconds left in the game. It was the only time the Cowboys (2-0, 1-0 Mountain West) led in the game, but it was long enough to secure an opening conference victory in the Mountain West.
