CSU and their football future all depends on their next hire I think. Sure they are a longshot for the Big12, but if they don't get a coach who can immediately fire up the fanbase, and replicate their 2013 success they have NO shot.

Regardless, 4-8 is a failure. So is 5-7. So is anything not getting to a bowl game.
So then OSUs 5-7 season was then a failure and you will have to wait til next year. And the new coach will have a new QB to break in and a new scheme to implement, which means probably another losing season, and you will has to wait till next year again. Sounds familiar.
The difference between Wyo and OS going 5-7 and getting a new QB, is that the Beavs have an entire roster full of QBs, and they aren't transferring away leaving us with a Colby Kirkgaard and a bunch of freshman.
Hey Beav, how were the Beaver's prior to Mike Riley?
Terrible. About the time Wyo football started to suck is when Oregon State football quit sucking.
And now this year, they were one win from one another.

Lol okay, since you want to turn this into an Oregon State vs. Wyo thing, since I rubbed you the wrong way let's look at it.
2014: Beavs went 5-7 Wyo went 4-8
2013: Beavs went 7-6 (bowl win) Wyo went 5-7
2012: Beavs went 9-4 (ranked as high as 7th in BCS and lost bowl game, finished ranked 20th) Wyo went 4-8
2011: Beavs went 3-9 Wyo went 8-5 (lost a bowl game, almost won the MWC)
2010: Beavs went 5-7 Wyo went 3-9
2009: Beavs went 8-5 (lost bowl game, finished receiving votes for T25) Wyo went 7-6 (won bowl game)
2008: Beavs went 9-4 (won bowl game finished RANKED 18th) Wyo went 4-8

So in the last 7 years, Beavs won 45-42. 2-2 in bowl games. 2 final AP rankings.
Wyo went 35-51, 1-1 in bowl games, 0 rankings.
2011 was the only year that Wyoming had a better season. 2009 you can make an argument for, because Wyo won a bowl game and OSU lost a bowl game, but the Beavs still won 1 more game, and received votes for Top 25.

I don't get what your bone to pick with the Beavs is.

Because I pointed out I don't like waiting til next year, then Kansas got all uppity and trash talked the Beavs saying they are essentially the same situation as Wyo, so I pointed out the differences, then you want to talk about how Wyo and OSU "almost" had the same record. Come on man. Don't get mad at me for pointing out how a 4-8 season was a total failure and how we are always waiting til next year.
If you ever need to laugh, just remember there was some idiot who wanted Bohl fired after 2 seasons.

I got uppity. You (Beav) and blade both came on my thread and started in on me.

Again the difference: OSU has the same coach for 14 years had veteran players in key positions who returned this year. It should have been a banner year for OSU. Yet they struggled to a 5-7 season.
WYO had a new coach, a new scheme to impliment, new players key players missing and inexperience in other areas. And still managed 4-8.

One game difference.i guess both are failures.

This is how this went Kansas,

Kansas: This year wasn't a failure!
Beaver: Yes it was.
Kansas: Well so was Oregon States season!
Beaver: Yep.
Cowboyz: Oregon State sucks as bad as Wyo!
Kansas: Well Beavers had a lot of seniors so it shouldn't have been a failure so hah!

Yeah, notice how I said a 5-7 season is a failure? Then you go and act like you are calling me out on the Beavers having a bad season. Jesus man. No poop. 5-7 is not good. The Beavers had a bad season. Never denied it. That doesn't change the fact that Wyo had a terrible season too.

No, I'm calling you out on how you come on to constantly complain how WYO does so bad, and flip about the fan base, and athletic dept, and try to use our rival as an example of how to do it, because their one legit year is proof that they are leaving us in the dust. Each one of those points I've argued with you on as well as many others. But if we use your "other favorite" team (who is eerily similar) as an example of the same things, it's casually nothing to you, and isn't the same.
You complain that CSUs new stadium is them leaving us in the dust. Yet we continue to rennovate our stadium and build better facilities. Who's chasing who? Damn, we even have a pro team interested in our indoor practice facility! They completely bypassed Fort Collins for that one, didn't they?
You complain about our fan base, yet we all watched OSU take on ASU and noticed quite an empty stadium. Kudos on the win, but going back to the point, you brushed it off as fans came in late in the game. Not true. They continually showed stadium shots throughout the entire game... Pretty sparse. I don't care what they announced there. It looked more like 25k in a 45k stadium. That's the equivelant of 15k in the War.
I generally agree with you, but this year, not so much.

Lol :thumb:

First of all, the Denver Broncos didn't look at the IPF, they looked at the FieldHouse, the building that's been there for how many years? They were interested in the design of the FieldHouse. It has nothing to do with Wyo having superior football facilities. Even if they did like our IPF, does it mean that because they chose us we have better facilities than Bama or Texas? Come on. That's an irrelevant thing to hold our hats on. "Here recruits, the Broncos like our IPF, sweet huh?"

And don't take my word for it, but there was far more than 25K at that OSU-ASU game. There was far more than 35K too. But nope, you are right, because you saw parts of the stadium on TV, you know better. And the fact you think Oregon State and Wyoming are eerily similar when the lowest attendance for the Beavers this season was over 40K, and has won far more games over the past 7 years as I pointed out, is laughable. I posted the records from the last 7 seasons and while the Beavers certainly aren't the Ducks, they are far from being at the level Wyoming is. But here is the thing, you act like I am here to talk about how the Beavers are better than the Pokes; I'm not. You get upset, say the Beavs suck, so I explain why they don't. "Eerily similar" Lol.
Also, let's look at one more thing, let's say, since you know better than someone who was actually at the game, that the Beavers had 25K show up for the ASU game. That's your ONLY game you can pick on. The Beavers loaded the stadium for the Portland State, San Diego State, Utah (thursday night), Cal, Wazzu, and Oregon games.
I do enjoy that my points get to you so bad you go onto bitch about the Beavers anytime you disagree with me though. I'm glad I have that effect on you.

The only thing similar the Beavers and Cowboys have going for them right now is that they both have a rivalry with the team in green down south.

But let's get back to the Wyo season not being a failure; which it absolutely was. 4-8 is a failure. No ifs ands or buts about it.
What world is it a success?

Bohl lost to CSU, USU, and Hawaii. All of which are "rivalries" with trophies.
We had a 5th year QB, who showed some guts, but couldn't find a wide open WR in the endzone to win a game.
We did find a bright spot in Brian Hill. That kid is going to be fun in the future.
It's good that May can move to the defense without hurting our RB depth.

We gave up 36.67 ppg last season, compared to 32.83 ppg this season. That is a definite improvement. About 4ppg, let's call that a TD every other game. Not great, but I do see the improvement. The first few games out of the gate showed some promise, but last season they did too, only to see it crash and burn. Just like this season.

The MWC was down this season more than ever before. People used to pick apart DC for his SOS compared to Glenns saying the MWC was tougher under Glenn than it was under DC. Which was true, but if you are going to say that about DC, you better say it about Bohl. The MWC was more down this season than any year under DC. Yet DC still won a bowl game year 1.

Bright spots here: We blew out Fresno State. Brian Hill. Glimpses of the future with a good defense, and solid run game.

That is all there is.

Now, if you want to talk about CSU making an effort to turn around their program as compared to ours, to me it all starts with the AD. They had their vision, and got it going. We are stuck with the used car salesman. Sure CSU has only had 1 10win season. We haven't done that in 20 years.

CSU had a coach leave because he left for the SEC. We have coaches leave because they get fired. They are building a new stadium. I don't care if they are playing catch up right now, it's an arms race, and in todays world of college football, the newest stuff is the nicest stuff. Recruits don't care that we have already had this or that, when CSU has a brand new this or that. CSU isn't the great next thing by any means, but they are trying to be, and I applaud them for that. I would rather us shoot for our dreams and crash and fail instead of cautiously saying "Jeez I don't know about that".

They show some fire, and we don't. That's where I feel about CSU leaving us behind. Their mentality is the one leaving us behind. They are in the 21st century and we are sitting behind mocking them not being complacent.
If you ever need to laugh, just remember there was some idiot who wanted Bohl fired after 2 seasons.

I love the arguments about which program is better based on what happened to their coaches.

During our heydays we had coaches go lots of big places. Some did well (Devaney, Tiller), some got fired later (Dimel). During CSU's two heydays one coach could have left many times but stayed, and one just went to a big place. During both teams' suck years, coaches got fired.

It really proves nothing about the quality of the programs. In the period since I started school at UW almost 30 years ago we and CSU have both been up and down, in very similar fashion.

Not to jump in the middle of a pissing match here, but, IMO, this is the exact thing the independent committee was talking about when they said WYO was accepting of a culture of mediocrity. It isn't just the AD but also the University and the fans. We put things on a per capita basis, a per student basis, how much we spend per resident, attendance based on percentage of capacity, etc. etc.

Guess what? None of that crap matters. Nada. Zilch. 15K is 15K. There are no asterisks in the records for population within 100 miles or whatever. We aren't spotted points or handicaps for our distance from a major metropolis.

For hell's sake, WYO fans show up in droves if we play someone like TX. That demonstrates WYO fans will show up if it interests them. All the per capita crap stuff is just an excuse for failure; nothing more. The committee is 100% spot on. Unless that culture changes, we won't (change).

I know Cuttslam already covered it pretty succinctly, but let me offer a counterpoint to the OP:

Why this year was a failure: 4-8

That's all I got. I like Bohl and look forward to the growth in the program, and one of the reasons I like Bohl is that I am pretty confident he thinks 4-8 is a failure too.

I think he absolutely believes 4 & 8 is a failure...especially with complete ass kickings against conference mates CSewe and Boise State.

BP. As for the rest of your post, I don't care, that's between the 2 of you. However, the Broncos did NOT look at the Fieldhouse, they looked at the IPF. I realize in the article that talked about this it states Fieldhouse, but that was clearly a typo. Anyone that has spent as much time in both the fieldhouse and the IPF as I have in the past could easily tell which one was used as a model when they look at pictures of the Broncos facility. It's not even close...

Yes! Excellent analogy. But I scored it differently.

You know you're in for a great night when the card girls collide before the 1st round and the white and mighty pugilists are belting it out over a 4-8 season and Oregon State's record!

Twas much more than the comparison of records.

and it wasn't supposed to be a prized internet fight, it was to get my damn point across about comparing Wyo to OS then looking at our pitiful season without absurdly gold abd brown glasses, then comparing Wyo to our biggest rival CSU.

it wasn't a failure, but I'm sure hoping for massive improvements next year, and shooting for 6-6, possibly 7-5 as next years schedule isn't the toughest we've ever had

However, we lose a lot of experience on both sides of the ball, like Rufran on the offense and Mertens on defense. So, don't be surprised if some places on the team have less production than this year's.

Well, this year and next were going to be painful if anyone really thought about it. Year 3 is when we should begin to see an upwards trend.
