I definitely would love to see the tourney moved to the new arena behind the New York New York.....here's a link to an article on the arena. Official name right now is the MGM-AEG Arena.

Why is it so important to stay in Las Vegas? Is it the most centrally-located big city?

It's easy to get to, plenty of hotels for thousands of visiting fans to stay at, airfare isn't that bad (since tickets to Vegas in general aren't very expensive), good weather year round, easy to find your way around with the landmarks, plenty of taxis and other modes of transportation, and home of a MWC school.joshvanklomp wrote:Why is it so important to stay in Las Vegas? Fromolwyoming noted a number of reasons and I would add that the general tourist attractions of Vegas are key. They provide an additional reason to make the trip and a consolation in the event your team is one and done.joshvanklomp wrote:Why is it so important to stay in Las Vegas? The tournament was held in Denver for a few years and attendance was dramatically less and it wasn't just due to the absence of UNLV fans. Just looking at WYO in particular, our attendance was similar in Denver to LV (maybe less), despite the proximity and local alumni base. Las Vegas is just a great tourist attraction and a fantastic place for these types of sporting events.
The MWCT has been such a success in Vegas that the PAC-12, WCC, and WAC have all followed suit and moved their tourneys to LV.
In a perfect world, the tournament would be held at a neutral venue in LV, but it sounds like there are serious financial incentives to keep it at the T&M (which is a very good venue one top of everything else).

I don't mind it being in Las Vegas but it absolutely has to be moved to a new venue. What a load of crap allowing one team a home court advantage for the tournament.

That is going to be a top-notch facility (MGM AEG), and it would be great to have the tourney there. Either way, Las Vegas is the priority first of all...that is the best city to host it.CowboyNV wrote:I definitely would love to see the tourney moved to the new arena behind the New York New York.....here's a link to an article on the arena. BUT, I don't mind the T&M...in fact, I think it is the premier facility for hoops in the MWC. Can't believe it opened basically when the AA opened (a year later), and is such a superior facility to the AA - top to bottom. Kind of makes me sick that UW didn't push the pencil & budget just a tad bit more for something similar. With options for dirt, ice, concerts, indoor football, hoops, etc. Hell UW could have done a scaled down version that sat 12k if they wanted, and ended up with one helluva facility!
Rodeo fans would have enjoyed it:
Concert fans would have enjoyed it:
And of course, hoops fans would have enjoyed it:

The AA doesn't need options. Not very coaches can tell recruits that they have access to there home court on daily basis (at least arenas the size of the AA).When construction is all said and done we will be sitting very well.

I disagree. But only in the instance that UW does a very, very, VERY poor job using the AA as a revenue center. Talk about an opportunity to eliminated some TBD's and TBA's...poke_addict wrote:The AA doesn't need options. Don't get me wrong, I think is great a coach can tell recruits that they have access to the home court to practice every day...but we don't play every game at home, and having a strange hoop may not be such a bad thing. Of course having a basketball practice facility would be sweet...like SDSU, New Mexico, and UNLV have for instance.

Everything negative at UW is his fault. Bar none. I don't want some BS excuse that he was barely old enough to shave...He should have known better and stopped this...McPeachy wrote:ItSucksToBeACSURam wrote:Tom Burman strikes again...

Well, I certainly don't think everything negative at UW is his fault, but since he took office, pretty damn close. Some things (IPF, Wildcatter, Tennis, etc.) were in the works long before he signed his contract. Maybe Buchanan should be equally to blame, when it comes "down to it."

It needs to stay in Vegas. If we could get it at another arena that would be cool. It would be great to have it closer to the strip cuz it isn't the easiest to get to the T&M(not that it is hard but on the strip would be sweet). Last year when ZI walked through the MGM where they were having the PAC tournament it was really cool. COmpletely decked out it PAC decorations and fans from everyteam wandering around gambling/drinking together. SOmething like that owuld be a lot of fun to have things focused on one hotel/casino.
That being said, I have no problem wit hthe T&M. They do a pretty good job of changing things up and making it not feel like UNLV's homecourt. If it makes sense to keep it there then I have no complaints.

I had another thought on it as well...they (T&M) need to remove the Cummard wall of shame. Asap.TSpoke wrote:It needs to stay in Vegas. If we could get it at another arena that would be cool.
