That's a pretty good hire for them. I was kind of hoping he'd be an option to interview when Bohl retires.

Not totally out of the blue. Mendenhal was a on Rocky Long's staff when Long was head coach at UNM. I would be willing to bet Long recommended the hire and may be part of the staff or at least a consultant next year.
