Jay Johnson national offensive ranks as OC:

At Louisiana (SBC)

2011 - 51st

2012 - 29th

2013 - 58th

2014 - 57th

2015 - 77th

At Minnesota (B1G)

2016 - 107th

At Colorado (Pac-12)

2019 - 83rd

At Michigan State (B1G)

2020 - 109th

2021 - 42nd

2022 - 97th

2023 - 128th

In case you're curious, the vast majority of his offenses ranked below Wyoming's, even against lesser competition..
What specific years did his offense BOTH rank below WYO AND against lesser competition. I'm only taking about this specific statement from you.

For the record I'm not saying anything about Johnson other than it certainly fits the hiring process at WYO. (We don't need to rehash this).
You're misreading my comment, but perhaps I should have clarified. Bad phrasing on my part.

The vast majority of his offenses have performed worse than Wyoming's (this is the base statement); the side point is that some of them have also been against worse competition. That's all.

I don't have the time to dig back into the stats this morning, but I know 2013 had a pretty big gap in favor of Wyoming. (Unless the argument is that the SBC of years past was just as strong as the MWC, which I don't think anyone actually thinks. Lol.)

It should also be noted that even with an increase in competitive difficulty/conference strength comes an increase in resources and access to talent that he simply hasn't capitalized on; over the last decade he has consistently fielded offenses in the bottom 10-30% of the nation at three different P5 schools.

Anyway (the rest of this isn't in response to you, just avoiding double posting):

Again, he seems to do a bit better in lower levels of football and maybe he'll have some sort of revival, but even in the SBC he was "average" with one standout year out of 5 (offset by one pretty poor year and three decent years) so I'm not holding my breath for some sort of miracle.

Bottom line, he's had one good offense in the last decade and when literally every fan I talk to from his last three teams is sending their condolences, it doesn't bode well. I'm not sure why this is a controversial take to some.

He could just start with what years his O was worse than Wyoming.

In YPG:

2011- 9 spots better

2012 - 43 spots better

2013 - 35 spots worse

2014 - 27 spots better

2015 - 23 spots better

2016 - 59 spots worse

2017 - Did not have an OC job

2018 - Did not have an OC job

2019 - 23 spots better

2020 - 27 spots worse

2021 - 43 spots better

2022 - 23 spots better

2023 - 23 spots worse

In PPG:

2011 - 35 spots better

2012 - 51 spots better

2013 - 17 spots better

2014 - 49 spots better

2015 - 32 spots better

2016 - 37 spots worse

2017 - No OC job

2018 - No OC job

2019 - 7 spots worse

2020 - 33 spots worse

2021 - 47 spots better

2022 - 19 spots better

2023 - 51 spots worse

Okay, so in 5 out of 11 active seasons as OC he's been worse than our OCs at the time in either YPG, PPG, or both.

Bit better than I initially thought H2H, but isn't saying much considering how bad both he and we have been.

I guess if y'all are happy with a 50/50 chance of being a "dumpster fire" instead of being an "utter pile of steaming dogsh**", be my guest.

You’re not even counting correctly. You have 2 stats for 11 years. 22 total. 8 of those stats are worse than Wyoming’s. 6 of them can attributed to first and last season with msu and the year we had Josh Allen. I’d say he’s had a decent run. MSU was dumpster fire with HC situation this year and 2020 he was a new OC during a covid year. 2016 we had the machine as QB. he’s an improvement.

Waylee is on the fence about entering the portal, and they hire would help keep him here.

Also, another rumor going around at the game is two big time D starters are going to announce their return. It’s not Shae since he announced. So maybe Gibbs and ?
Today is the first day of classes. Shae Suiaunoa and Alex Brown appear to be the only two recognized on senior day to since announce their return.

No WR transfers known to be signed. They aren’t giving Svoboda much to worth with from all appearances.
yeah. We need at least one decent WR out of the Portal

I spoke too soon! We signed Tyler King from Texas Tech. Looks like a Robert Herron type WR. Track star who ran a 10.21 100 in high school.

He is 5’9, 180. Literally exact size as Herron.

The exercise of comparing team stats across a bunch of years with wildly different contexts and drawing any type of conclusions based on that seems really silly to me

I like the speed but worry that we may be getting an injured prospect. He did not even see the field for TT.

He has 4 years of eligibility. If he doesn’t work out for the football team, the dude could probably become a track star for us. You can’t teach this kind of speed.

Also - Texas Tech’s passing attack was set up more on the crisp routes and move the ball attack. With Svoboda, we really do want a straight line burner because he can sling it 60 yards. To me, this is a very worthy gamble.

Damriver, what was total offense? That's a more commonly used stat.
