Closer to the Goal. . .
As of Tuesday morning, 7,862 seasons tickets had been sold for the 2011 Cowboy football campaign. That is already 3,000 ahead of the pace set this time last year, and 1,120 ahead of two seasons ago at this time, when Texas was coming to town. According to the UW Athletics Ticket Office, over 1,700 new season tickets have been sold thus far. The UW record for football-season tickets sold is 8,336.

Football Home Schedule Special Events. . .
Most of the "special" days for Wyoming's 2011 football season have been set. The Weber State game, scheduled for September 3, will kickoff at 7 p.m. The day will begin with a "Downtown Kickoff" sponsored by Laramie Main Street. That starts at 11 a.m. and continues until 2 p.m. That game will be "t-shirt giveaway night" and will include fireworks following the game. The Texas State game (September 10, 4 p.m.) will be Military Day and Ag Appreciation Day. The Nebraska contest (September 24, 5:30 p.m.) just may be the biggest home game in War Memorial Stadium history. UNLV (October 15, noon) will be Homecoming. TCU (November 5, noon) will be Band Day and "Pair up with the Pokes" day. New Mexico (November 19, noon) will close out the home schedule with Senior Day.

Football Season Parking Plan. . .
You may have read or heard of Wyoming's new parking plan for its athletic events. There are some changes and significant improvements. If you have specific parking questions either visit wyomingathletics.com or call the Cowboy Joe Club office.

Cowboy Joe Club News. . .
Single-game request forms for the Nebraska game will be sent Monday, May 2nd to the Club's Golden Spur and Silver Spur levels. Members in those categories now have the opportunity to purchase tickets to that game. Members in the top three levels--Simpson, Scholarship and Coaches-- have already received that opportunity. Visit wyomingathletics.com for more information.

Members of the athletics department staff will be traveling the state this week for Cowboy Joe Club functions. The schedule includes Douglas on Tuesday, Sheridan on Wednesday, and Rock Springs on Thursday. Fremont County kicks off its fund drive on May 2 while Washakie, Hot Springs and Big Horn counties open their blitz on May 12.

This is good news for UW students who belong to the student fan club The Stampede. Stampede members may join the Cowboy Joe Club at the Century Club level by paying $50. The Club will match that gift so that students can belong as a Century Club member. That level will include parking in the CJC "Brown" lots. That's a heck of a deal for great fans within UW's student body, and gives young people a great start on priority points for the Club which they may continue once they have completed their collegiate careers.

Once again, a reminder to all golfers that the Club's Golf Series is less than a month away. The first of 15 tournaments in Wyoming and Colorado tees off on May 13, at the Riverton Country Club. The tour will continue the following day, May 14, at Gillette's Bell Nob Golf Course. The rest of the schedule: Monday, May 16, Fox Hollow Golf Course, Denver; Friday, May 20, Powell Golf Club; Saturday, May 21, Green Hills Golf Club, Worland; Saturday, June 4, The Golf Cub at Devils Tower, Hulett; Friday, June 10, Cheyenne Country Club; Saturday, June 11, The Powder Horn, Sheridan; Monday, June 13, Ptarmigan Country Club, Ft. Collins; Friday, June 17, Teton Pines Country Club, Jackson; Saturday, June 18, White Mountain Golf Course, Rock Springs; Monday, June 20, Buffalo Golf Club; Saturday, June 25, Purple Sage Golf Club, Evanston; Friday, August 5, Casper Country Club; Saturday, August 6, Jacoby Golf Course, Laramie.

"Mulligans" will be sold at each tournament to improve your golf score. Each "mulligan" also enters you in a drawing to take home a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro convertible for keeps. While the contest used to feature use of a GM vehicle for a year, now the winner will own the Camaro. That new twist is thanks to the sponsorship of Laramie GM Auto Center and Infinity Power and Controls.

Last Week. . .
Cowboy Wrestler Tyler Cox placed second in the 55 kilogram (121.25 pound) Greco-Roman division of the University Nationals over the weekend in Akron, Ohio, to pace three Cowboy wrestlers in the event. The placing qualified the UW redshirt freshman for the U.S. Senior World Team Trials on June 9-11 in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The Cowgirl tennis team won its final two regular-season matches last weekend at Laramie, beating Colorado State on Friday and Air Force on Sunday. Congratulations to senior Rebecca Berger who became the Cowgirls' all-time leader in wins with 68. She broke Sarah Summerfield's career mark of 67. The Cowgirls open Mountain West Tournament play on Thursday. They will take on the third seed San Diego State at 10 a.m. The tournament is being played at Ft. Collins.

The track team won five events at the Jack Christiansen Invite last Saturday. Nik Deininger won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and Stephen Michel the long jump for the men while Diana Long won the 400-meter hurdles, Chantel Bernabo the 200-meter dash and Candace Wollert the 400-meter dash for the Cowgirls.

How many season tickets were sold to Nebraskans? That's something I'm kind of curious about.

Let them spend $200 on a ticket then. They won't get anymore tickets unless they joined the CJC for a few more hundred dollars.

Again, we'll see the same exact thing we saw when Texas came to town.
