What software is required for the stream? I have just downloaded what I thought was the player from that site and now it's installed all kinds of crap I didn't want.

No do not download anything. Just wait for it to disappear and usually there will be a little red x or some x that comes up that you can click it off. Do not download anything though. I watch games on these sites all of the time.
