We all consider Joe Tiller one of Wyoming's great coaches, and we all now consider DC one of Wyoming's worst coaches. Looking at each of their first 5 years, Joe's record isn't very impressive. 1 game over .500 is all. I wonder if our "glory days" haven't been exaggerated like an old fishing story. It was Tiller's 6th year after the years of mediocrity where we saw success and got robbed of our bowl (the last team in history to not get invited to a bowl while being ranked)
Joe Tiller
1991 Wyoming 4–6 2–5
1992 Wyoming 5–7 3–5
1993 Wyoming 8–4 6–2
1994 Wyoming 6–6 4–4
1995 Wyoming 6–5 4–4
1 winning conference record, 2 overall winning records
DC
2009 Wyoming 7–6 4–4
2010 Wyoming 3–9 1–7
2011 Wyoming 8–5 5–2
2012 Wyoming 4–8 3–5
2013 Wyoming 5–7 3–5
1 winning conference record, 2 overall winning records

DC was hurt by BS injury last yr and DB and OL injuries this year... then of course the total collapse from the CSU game on this yr, and generally not being liked.
Tiller was trending upward, but due to a variety of reasons DC era was trending downward.
I do see your point, but the last real glory days (conf champs) were under Roach.

Two key differences:
1. Look how each finished their respective 5th seasons
2. SOS- this year we played BY FAR the weakest schedule we have played going back as far as I can find data (Sagarin goes back to 1998). We finished 5-7 but if you look at objective rankings (Sagarin/Massey), this was the 2nd worst year we have had in the modern era with a 142 Sagarin ranking. Only Vic's first year (1-10) was worse. The MWC/WAC has collapsed and become a remarkably weaker league than what Glenn, Dimel, Tiller had to deal with. We also played a weak OOC this year.
While I can't prove it, I suspect that if Joe Glenn was able to play this type of schedule he would still be the HC at Wyoming.

In year #5 Tiller had one of the best Cowboy teams ever. In year #5 DC had one of the worst Cowboys defenses ever. We allowed more points at one stretch that was more than any other similar stretch in history. Plus, DC never beat a team with a better than .500 record....unless Fresno finished greater than .500 in the NM Bowl.

Christensen wasn't fired based on his overall win-loss record, nor was Tiller retained on his.BackHarlowRoad wrote:We all consider Joe Tiller one of Wyoming's great coaches, and we all now consider DC one of Wyoming's worst coaches. I will say this, however- had Christensen beaten CSEwe for a fifth straight year, Craig Bohl would likely not be the new head coach.

There is a pattern here:
Tiller 29 wins in first five seasons
Christensen 27 wins in first (only) five seasons
if you add Glenn in he had 26 wins in first five seasons.
It looks like the magic number is under 30 wins in your first five seasons and your shown the door at Wyoming.

If you don't hit 30 and are fired after 5, I think that is good.
30 wins mean 6 wins per season.
30 wins mean 6 wins per season.
If you ever need to laugh, just remember there was some idiot who wanted Bohl fired after 2 seasons.
