POKES LOSE AT HOME TO NEW MEXICO, FALCONS NEXT WELCOME TO THE WAR, ELEVATION 7200 FEET The Pokes dropped a Homecoming heartbreaker to the New Mexico Lobos this last weekend, 20-3. The game was fraught with drama as a weather delay caused the game to stay 3-3 for 1 hour 47 minutes. After a Billy Vinnedge punt lightning was seen, and as a NCAA rule, play must be suspended for at least 20 minutes after the first lightning strike is seen. The lightning also caused a delay in Fort Collins during the Rams/Falcons game. After the delay New Mexico came running out of the gate scoring two quick touchdowns to put the Cowboys in a 17-3 hole and they never looked back. The Lobos were led by running back Rodney Ferguson who ran for 96 yards in the slippery field conditions. Rain, snow, and everything else was a factor in this game, and the Lobos weathered the storm for their fourth victory of the season. Quarterback Donovan Porterie had 191 yards through the air, completing key passes to wide receivers to setup Lobo scores. The Cowboys drop to 4-2 on the season, 1-1 in conference play, third in the wide open Mountain West. This week the Cowboys will travel down I-90 to take on the Air Force Falcons. The Falcons are fresh off of a win against in-state rival Colorado State. The Falcons are led by senior quarterback Shaun Carney, who set the all-time passing mark for a QB at Air Force, typically known for their triple option offense. This year the Falcons are a new look offense and it seems to be bringing in victories for the Zoomies. They have transitioned well under new head coach Troy Calhoun. The Falcons are 5-2 on the season, 4-1 in Mountain West play.
