Cowboys Drop Game at Air Force, UNLV is Up Next
WELCOME TO THE WAR, ELEVATION 7200 FEET

The Wyoming Cowboys dropped a heart breaker to the Air Force Falcons this past weekend by a score of 20-12. This is the second defeat in a row for the Cowboys who seem to be struggling on offense. The Cowboys jumped out to an early 6-0 lead on a Wade Betschart touchdown, but Air Force game right back with a score of their own. Billy Vinnedge, at the end of the first half, drilled a 57 yard field goal, the longest of his career to move the Pokes to 9-7 at the break. The Cowboys were a victim of a questionable call when fumble hit the ground, then was picked up by Air Force and returned for a touchdown. The play was not overturned, with the Cowboys arguing the ground caused the fumble. Bad calls were not the problem in this game as the Cowboys turned the ball over five times, three of them coming off of interceptions by Karsten Sween. He was replaced in the game by Ian Hetrick. Air Force did not give the Cowboy defense a lot of breathing room as wide reciever Chad Hall ran for 167 yards against the stout defense, while quarterback Shaun Carney added a few more yards of his own, bringing the AFA total to 259.

This week the Cowboys will be at home as they take on the UNLV Runnin' Rebels. The Rebels are 2-6 on the season, 1-3 in Mountain West play. The Rebels are led by quarterback Travis Dixon. The Rebels have had a tough year so far as they are coming off of a loss to previously winless Colorado State. The Cowboys are looking to rebound and get their bowl aspirations back on track. The Cowboys need to win 3 of the next 5 games to get bowl eligible. Joe Glenn announced this week that quarterback Ian Hetrick will start in place of the ineffective Karsten Sween. The offense has been struggling as of late, and a change at quarterback might be what the Cowboys need to get it going. Sween has been a victim of costly turnovers that has added a lot of pressure to the defense. The Cowboys figure if they can minimize turnovers, they can keep themselves in the game. The game is a 12:00 start at War Memorial Stadium. The Pokes are 4-3 on the season, 1-2 in conference play.
