Cowboys Drop Heartbreaker to Aztecs, Utah Utes Next WELCOME TO THE WAR, ELEVATION 7200 FEET
The Wyoming Cowboys travelled to San Diego, CA this week to take on the San Diego State Aztecs. The Aztecs are under first year head coach Chuck Long and made him a proud man Saturday night. The Cowboys dropped a heartbreaker to the Aztecs 27-24. The Cowboys were up 21-0 at halftime, but the defense buckled in the 2nd half. The Cowboys were ahead late when Aztec quarterback marched the Aztecs down the field and hooked up with Vincent Brown on a 27 yard touchdown pass to take the lead with 1:06 left in the 4th quarter. The Cowboys got the ball back and were driving down the field when a Karsten Sween pass was intercepted and sealed the game for the Aztecs. The Cowboys were led by wide receiver Michael Ford who had a pair of TD grabs for the Cowboys. The two first half touchdown passes from Sween, then an 80 yard interception return by Quincy Rogers put the Pokes up 21-0 in the 2nd quarter. After halftime was a different story as the Aztecs held the Pokes to just a field goal while the Aztecs piled up 27 points for the win. Karsten Sween's late interception was his only of the game, a dramatic improvement from previous outings. The Cowboys fell to 5-4 on the season, 2-3 in Mountain West play. The Cowboys have not won in San Diego since 1995. Up next for the Cowboys is the Utah Utes, in Salt Lake City. The Utah Utes are led by quarterback Brian Johnson and runningback Darrell Mack. The Utes are 6-3 on the year, 3-2 in Mountain West games. The game will kick off at 1:30 PM.
