Cowboys Lose Border War to Rams, Basketball Up Next WELCOME TO THE WAR, ELEVATION 7200 FEET The Wyoming Cowboy football team dropped their final game of the year to the Colorado State Rams last weekend, ending a disappointing season for the Cowboys. The Cowboys and Rams exchanged leads throughout the game, but in the end the Rams pulled off the win with a late touchdown. The teams were evenly match, with CSU playing in Sonny Lubick's last football game as a Ram. Wyoming quarterback Karsten Sween did everything asked of him, committing no interceptions, but had one fumble that setup the last CSU touchdown when the Rams blitz overwhelmed the Cowboy line and Sween was left a sitting duck in the pocket. The season is now over for the Cowboys who have already gone through some changes in the coaching staff as Billy Cockhill was let go the day after the loss. Cowboy head coach Joe Glenn felt the offense wasn't getting the job done, as evidenced by the collapse the Cowboys endured to finish the 2nd half of the season. With football season now over, this means that basketball and wrestling season is upon us, and both have started with a bang. The Wyoming Cowgirls are ranked 24th in the nation following a 6-0 start. This last week they defeated the Montana Lady Griz and the Denver Pioneers. The Cowgirls are led by senior forward Hanna Zavecz this season, who is putting up impressive numbers thus far. This week the Cowgirls will face the Colorado Buffalos before they head on the road for the Iowa Hawkeye Classic where they will face St. Joseph's, then the winner of Iowa/Northern Illinois. The Wyoming Cowboy basketball team will face the Colorado Buffalos at home this week. The Cowboys are coming off of a split this week where they beat Arkansas Pine Bluff but lost on the road to Akron. The Zips overpowered the Cowboys, routing them 96-71. The Cowboys handed Ark-Pine Bluff the same fate a few nights beforehand. The Cowboy wrestlers are coming off of a weekend in Las Vegas for the Cliff Keen Open. The Cliff Keen open is one of the biggest tournaments in the nation featuring 50 teams from all over the United States, including top ranked teams such as Michigan, Illionois, Boise State and Nebraska. Eric Coxbill, a Wright, Wyo native led the Pokes with three victories as the Cowboys finished 37th of 50 teams. This weekend the grapplers will head off to Idaho to face the Boise State Broncos on Saturday.
