Cowgirls Win Hawkeye Classic, Cowboys Beat Buffaloes
WELCOME TO THE WAR, ELEVATION 7200 FEET

The 21st ranked Wyoming Cowgirls dropped their first game of the season last week when they were defeated by the Colorado Lady Buffs. The Cowgirls dropped the game 69-55. After the heartbreaking loss the Cowgirls jumped on an airplane and took off for Iowa for the Hawkeye Classic. The Cowgirls played a couple of close games, in which they were trailing for 30+ minutes against St. Joseph's before they finally pulled ahead at the end of the game for a victory, 66-64. In the championship bout the Cowgirls faced the hometown Iowa Hawkeyes, and were again trailing late until they pulled off another come from behind victory, winning 54-50. Aubrey Vandiver was named MVP of the classic, and the Cowgirls moved ahead in the rankings to 21st.

The Cowboys only had one game this week in which they faced the Colorado Buffaloes in Laramie for the first time since 1998. The Cowboys upended the Buffaloes 73-64, sending them to 4-3 on this young season. Up next they will take on the Montana State Bobcats at the Cowboy Shootout in Casper. Tipoff is at 3:30.

The Wyoming Cowboy wrestlers this week competed against Boise State, in Boise, dropping the contest 38-3. The young Cowboys were overmatched all night as the battle-tested Broncos won the first four matches, until Eric Coxbill broke the cycle and gave the Pokes their only score of the night. The Cowboys will travel next week to Reno for the Brute Reno Tournament of Champions.

In other news, the Wyoming Cowboys are close to naming their new offensive coordinator. While the word hasn't been officially announced, it's been widely circulated that the Cowboys are looking to an old friend of Joe Glenn's, Bob Cole. Bob Cole was previous the offensive coordinator of the Florida A&M Rattlers. Cole, who runs a traditional spread offense, has a knack for making the football fly, but keeping the game balanced with a strong running attack. Under Glenn, Cole ran the offense at the University of Montana, leading them to the quarterfinals of the 1-AA playoffs while turning out a 3000 yard passer and a 1000 yard rusher. The Grizzlies finished in the top 5 in total offense and points per game. In another stint, Cole led the Utah State Aggies to a monster offensive season, and turning out NFL wide reciever Kevin Curtis and tight end Chris Cooley. Cole as also served as offensive coordinator for Portland State. Cole will be replacing the recently fired Billy Cockhill. It is unknown if Glenn has other changes in mind for his team.
