MEN SPLIT BASKETBALL GAMES, WRESTLERS AT MIDLAND INVITE
WELCOME TO THE WAR, ELEVATION 7200 FEET

The Cowboy basketball team split their games this last weekend with a loss to Wisconsin-Milwaukee at the AA, then pulled off a win against Div. II Chadron State. The Cowboys struggled in their loss against UW-M, failing to hit clutch shots throughout the game, and even got the ire of their head coach afterwards. Heath Schroyer was upset with his players, who mentioned that the team seemed to be playing without a lot of motivation. Shroyer, in his first season at UW, is a ball of fire when it comes to coaching. He coaches with a lot of intensity and expects the same of his players, however, the players may not be responding to this style of coaching. The Pokes fell to the Panthers 80-66, Brandon Ewing led Cowboy Scorers with 24 points. This weekend the Cowboys bested Chadron State behind the shooting of Ewing, who brought the Cowboys back by scoring 10 of the last 15 points, to propel them to a win over a feisty Eagles squad. The Cowboys took the game 76-69. The Cowboys next host New Mexico on Saturday in the AA, the tipoff at 4:00.

Three Wyoming Cowboy wrestlers competed in the Midland Invitational this weekend in Evanston, IL this last weekend. Carter Downing, Cory VomBaur, and Garrett Desmond represented the Cowboys in this invite only, prestigious tournament. The Cowboys, despite only having three wrestlers, put on a display. Carter Downing finished 5-1 on the weekend, giving himself a 5th place finish. Cory VomBaur also wrestled well going 4-3, and earning 6th place. Garrett Desmond was 0-2 on the weekend. The three Cowboys wrestled with a lot of intensity, and gathered praise from their coach Matt Johnson, going on to say, "Overall it was a real shot in the arm for us to have these guys wrestle so well and have some people from around the country really take notice of us. We are looking forward to getting the rest of the guys back from break and hit the second half of our season with some energy."  The Cowboy wrestlers will next compete in the Lone Star Duals in Texas, and will be facing New Mexico Highlands, Eastern Michigan, Columbia, and Nebraska Kearney. The action will kickoff at 7 AM and will go throughout the day.
