Re: Why are public schools scared of vouchers?
A number of reasons. A lot of them are equity based. Essentially, private schools get to pick who they choose to take. There can be a lot of hidden racism, classism, anti-certain religions buried in their choices. In addition, they will tend to pick the best students (who are also the cheapest to ed...

Re: 3 mwc championships since 2013?
As an AD, I think Burman has had some goods and some bads. I support the whole athletic department (all of the men's and women's teams) and wish to see it do well. I like football and basketball, but not to the detriment of the other sports. In general, I tend to judge the athletics at any school by...

Re: 3 mwc championships since 2013?
Also remember that not all teams compete in the Mountain West. Men's swimming is in the WAC. Wrestling is now in the Big 12. Previously they won a handful of championships in the Western Wrestling Conference. Yes, these are not Mountain West championships, but don't sell short what some of the UW te...

Re: UW wrestling commit injured in car crash
My understanding is that in cases like this with injuries where it is clear that the athlete is likely to never compete again, the university can honor the scholarship and it does not count against the scholarship allocation limit for that sport. Since the NCAA may be involved, one never knows what ...

Re: 2014-2015 Poke Wrestling
Again, you would hope that the press release from UW could get it right, but it didn't. The press release had both Friesth and Harms losing the second place match when they both actually won (by receiving forfeits). Imagine WyoSports trying to write their story when they had conflicting information....

Re: 2014-2015 Poke Wrestling
Unfortunately, the press release from the Wyoming SID had both Friesth and Harms losing the second place matches. I believe it was also Tweeted by the athletic department that both last their matches. I think this is where the confusion came in. Finally, the TrackWrestle site never posted the result...

Re: WWC wrestling merge into the Big 12 ?
Seems we are all pretty much in agreement this would be a good move for UW? My question is, is there any substance to this rumour? I remember hearing this same thing as long as 3 years ago. Is there anyone out there "in the know that can enlighten us? Are there currently talks going on or are ...

Re: WWC wrestling merge into the Big 12 ?
As noted, this has been in discussion for a while. The Big XII is interested in a merger since they only have four existing wrestling members and they no longer count as an automatic qualifier for the NCAA tournament. All NCAA qualifier tournaments receive spots for at least the winner of every weig...
