Hastings falls 4-5 to Smith of Oklahoma State. Hastings wrestled pretty well in the NCAAT and he will be back next year as a sophomore!

Samuleson loses 5-6. Unlucky as he lost his balance on a shot giving up 2 to Hazel. Samuelson couldn't escape bottom.

Unsuccessful, Samuelson is eliminated. Overall a good showing by Tate in the NCAAT and he will be a big factor next year.OrediggerPoke wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2019 11:49 am Samuleson loses 5-6. Unlucky as he lost his balance on a shot giving up 2 to Hazel. Samuelson couldn't escape bottom.

And just like that Wyoming’s tournament is over.
Andrews loses in a terrible match where he gave up in the 3rd.
Turner loses 10-4 to Brock.
Bridges loses in OT to Gomez.

Epic flop this year on the big stage. Been a little while since they were done on the second day. Pretty disappointed in the way they wrestled and the seeding. They were constantly matched with guys who knew them well and had their number. Very disappointed, on the bright side we still may have a chance at a top 25 finish but very unlikely.
Wyoming won't finish in the Top-30. Branch said it best and it sums up the past two events, "Do you want to go out fighting or not?"
I figured they peaked with their win against NC State, the lat season injury to Cole hurt him, but there was zero fight in this team. It got a little hard and they shut down.

My thoughts, overall a disappointing tournament. Ashworth had a great career at Wyoming but leaves on a sour note losing to 2 guys that he has beat before and should have beat at the NCAAs. Andrews has the talent but apparently not the conditioning and that needs to be addressed. Bridges didn't get the win over Gomez when it really mattered (but that 133 bracket is ridiculous).
However, I am really excited for the future of this program. 6 guys that won a match at the NCAAT will be returning next year. That hasn't ever been the case at Wyoming. Hastings and Verner are Wyoming natives...it is fun to watch them as they really have the drive. Samuelson should be a top 10 wrestler next year in his weight class.

Go back and watch Branson and Tate the past two matches. Cole is the only guy that brought it every match, that kid has the motor and drive.
Hayden showed some fight against Smith but didn’t finish 3 shots. Brian gets down on himself because he threw that guy like a rag doll and then shut down.
Wyoming has tremendous upside, but even Branch called out the team after the Big 12, “Youth is not an excuse.” And this tournament “Do you want to go out fighting or not.”
Hayden will be a way better 165 then a 174. Moody and Randles will compete at 174. No clue what happens at 49 and 57 but that is a huge hole for the team. Zollman, Greenwood Brothers, Jeffries and Jensen (brother of Jaron) are around. Not sure Zollman or Jeffries can bump up.

Ashworth had the most disappointing tournament in my opinion. After his first match, he just stopped getting after his shot. On the big stage in his senior season with a real good shot at an All-American finish, I don't know why. The second biggest disappointment to me was Andrews just basically giving up in the 3rd period of his last match. Andrews has the talent.Vapoke wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2019 1:06 pm Go back and watch Branson and Tate the past two matches. But other than that, I saw positives from every other wrestler at the NCAAT. As a dual team next year, Wyoming could be really really tough. I don't think Hastings will be dropping to 165, I really don't.
He wrestled 165 as a redshirt and was an All-American in folkstyle. Everyone in Wyoming thinks he is a 165. Unless Randles is going to drop down. Moody is too big. I really think Hastings wrestles at 174 because of Ashworth just like t the Turner at 149 last year.
They need to find a 149 and 157 u less Dewey and Jaron put in some work this offseason.
They may bring some Guys in this spring. Jeffries could be a wildcard

One of the most important elements to greatness is eliminating mistakes. This team is good, not great.OrediggerPoke wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2019 12:52 pmThat's a load of crap. The team overall fought hard but made mistakes against good wrestlers which is tough to overcome.
