Man...the news that Ike has an "undisclosed lower leg issue" is not good. It was characterized as a "wear and tear" injury...that is really disheartening before the season even begins. There has been a lot of positive press around the men's team for this season, but I can't help but worry that this is the beginning of a classic Wyoming high expectation season that goes off the rails. The squad appears very deep but a deep squad of B+'s probably can't win the conference....not only that but, by all appearances, SDSU may be too good this year anyways. All of this is, of course, speculation...but that's what message boards are for right?

It’s got that feeling. I’m tempering my expectations. We have to have a great OOC to make the tourney and now that’s in serious jeopardy

Ike clearly has had leg issues for quite some time. Just watch how he had to warm up his legs on the bike coming out of halftime every game last year. So maybe this bit of rest is a good thing to hopefully have him healthy for conference season and to develop a late game offense other than clear out the middle and pass it down low to Ike.

I'm used to the letdowns but I'm staying a glass is half full.

I don't see how this season is setting up for a let down. It hasn't even started. 3 seasons ago we won less than 10 games and played one of the ugliest styles of basketball I've ever witnessed in the Dome of Doom. We made the dance 2 seasons after that. We're way ahead of schedule on the rebuild and are already flirting with the best this basketball program has seen in 70 years. (We hadn't won 25 games in a season since the 1950's).

SDSU's got their best team ever according to them. Who cares? We have one of our best teams ever and our basketball history didn't start with the hiring of Steve Fisher. We should embrace the high level of competition, since it elevates both programs. If we can beat SDSU to a conference title, this season will be epic.

Ike is injured for 6-8 weeks. We're deep. We should be able to deal with the loss of our best player for 6-8 weeks, especially when the schedule builds in difficulty over that 6-8 week period.

What I care about is seeing us make the dance, win games in the dance, and possibly win a conference title. I don't think Ike's injury is going to effect any of those goals unless we lose him for longer than anticipated. It might even make us stronger by giving others post reps in the early season and keeping Ike fresh for the end of the season.

Count me glass half full. We've had enough miserable years of basketball with lots of real negatives and very little positive for me to focus on the negative in a season with more promise than any we've had in a very long time.

We're a very good basketball team. I don't think anyone can argue that. Let's give the best staff and best roster Wyoming has had in 35 years a chance to make their own mark. Negativity.....screw that. Let's go 1-0 tonight and get this season off to a strong start.

Well if we don't go 1-0 tonight, I'm officially off the bandwagon

I actually feel bad for Colorado Christian. They were 8-20 in Division 2 last year and now have to come to the Dome of Doom against a deep Wyoming team. This is the kind of game that Wyoming could put up 100 in with a deep roster.

Let's wait and see how these first couple of games go without Ike before we start with any doom and gloom. Ike is a game changer, no doubt, but this team should be more than deep enough to get us through this non-con schedule in decent condition.

Linder seems like the coach to figure out how to deal with adversity, make the best of it and succeed. Get the right people in the right spot for each game and work the plan.

Sorry to offend folks by asking the question. I'm very excited for this season. I think Linder is a really good coach but there is no way that losing Ike will turn out to be a positive for this team. Our hopes of a 6 seed or higher will be gone without a dominant pre-season. I think the best we can reasonably hope for is for him to heal well and dominate the conference.

As far as projecting the conference race...the sportsbooks all have SDSU as the favorite and then a gap followed by us and Boise St. in some order. It's not a year where we lose our top player or have him significantly sidelined and still can feel like it's broad path to a low seed at-large bid.

No offense, stymie, but that’s a bad attitude! These guys will at least be very very decent and deserve maximum support

Sheesh.... The letdown didn't take very long I guess. It's just a matter of degree though. If it's a letdown that we don't end up with a low at-large seed then I guess we are on course for the letdown.

This game where shots weren't falling was bound to happen. Would have been a great time to feed Ike. I don't think they could have stopped him. Oh well, just win everything now.

Linder hasn't yet figured out how to run things without Ike. Lets hope he does and gets the lineup functioning correctly.

I feel like we don’t have an “offense”. Last year was obviously post ups, the year before it was let Marcus Williams cook and dish to people, this year there is no discernible offense. They need a deliberate plan and offense imo

The offense seems to me to have the tallest players stand around the perimeter waiting for the chance to jack a 3. I've seen this offense run in Half Acre on several occasions.

Yup. It used to be have the tallest guys go around the hoop and try to make baskets and get rebounds, now it’s have them 25 feet from t he hoop jacking threes. Brilliant

Judging by the comments.... it seems like there is a feeling that Linder has lost the thread about what makes the team tick. Do we put the blame on him for the loss vs SE Louisiana?

You have to question his rotations and what he was trying to do. Dusell may be hitting the transfer portal.

I was thinking this. I bet he is thinking “F this, after all the big shots I’ve hit and good defense I’ve played…”.

I’ve worried about this with the depth, and who isn’t getting playing time.
