We are -2 1/2. The total is only 44. Tells you App. state is the real deal. They took North Carolina to double overtime a few weeks ago.
In other games of interest ( well, I'm interested)
csewe +2 vs Middle tennessee st.
New Mexico +3 at U mass
CU +21 at Oregon
2 MWC games on Friday
Air Farce is -3.5 at San Jose St.
Boise st. -6.5 at San diego st.
My take (to make money - go the other way) is bet against csewe
Take Oregon to blowout CU and Air Farce to cover At SJS
One bit of good news - New Mexico has to go play at U Mass Saturday and then come play us next week. That's a lot of travel. Hopefully, we take advantage of that.
Wyo. vs App. state line

CSU will have a huge emotional let down. I like SDSU and the points v. Boise who has not looked good yet.bladerunnr wrote: ↑Mon Sep 18, 2023 11:38 am We are +2 1/2. The total is only 44. Tells you App. state is the real deal. They took North Carolina to double overtime a few weeks ago.

Id like to be a fly on the wall trying to figure out this line. A lot to try to handicap including our QB situation. I guess this is how they build giant pyramids in the Nevada desert

Yes and no. I doubt much time is spent creating a line on a game like this. The amount of money gambled vs. a big Pac 12 or Big 10 game is probably miniscule at most sportsbooks.Poke in New England wrote: ↑Mon Sep 18, 2023 12:32 pm Id like to be a fly on the wall trying to figure out this line. I'm going with AF, UMass, and WYO this week.
Freaking south Alabama made last week no good.
Appy State is going to be a huge challenge. I've said it a couple of times but this game is a good measuring stock. Excited for this one.

Maybe, but I think this is going to be a close one. SP+ favors App, I think.
I was out there for the 2004 game with both sons (11 & 9 then) and wife. Good game, but the lightning delay was a bummer. You spanked us that time. And, we returned the favor when you visited Boone about 10 years back.
This time, I will be there with older son (tomorrow's his 30th). He's a bit taller & I'm a bit grayer, than the last time we were there!
I have been to all 3 games this year. App's team is underrated so far. It's a good football team on both sides of the ball. The new QB is the complete package and is calm, cool, and collected, under pressure; and our main RB leads the nation in yards per game (100+ yds/game). ECU said he was the best they'd seen this year (ECU played Michigan & Marshall in 1st 2 games).
But, I have been most impressed with our D. Its a bend but don't break system, and hard to score in the red zone.
Don't get me wrong, it looks to me like Wyoming is bringing a really good football team to the game too. I'm sure we will get your best shot. Wouldn't have it any other way.
This should be a blast. Good luck to the Cowboys! May the best team win.

Welcome back! The place has changed alot since 2004. We are on our 3rd round of new field turf now. Off the top of my head, a paved parking lot, a new IPF, new atheltics center, new custom suites. Some new sawdust in the spittoons. Some things never change though, like the lovely dew of the piss clouds on a cold day in the west stands. I guess that has changed though, back then it would have been more of a whiskey cloud. Now its more of a beer cloud. Hope you enjoy your stay and safe travels.appalum1 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 2:42 pmMaybe, but I think this is going to be a close one. SP+ favors App, I think.

Being born and raised in NC, I have a lot of friends who went to App and talking to them about the game this Saturday, they expect it to be quite the fight from the first kick. They love their offense, but not totally sold on them defensively, especially the secondary so hopefully we can exploit that. Should be a battle, but I will take the Pokes winning 24-21.
And glad to be here! Been a Pokes fan since my high school days(about 18 years now, lord I'm getting old) as a friend of mine's family was from Laramie so started watching the games with them and been a fan since. Wanted to go to the University myself to play football but...did not have D1 talent haha so went somewhere else for college so I would play but hope to get to a game at some point! And as an aside, Browns are my NFL team(I know not the Bills lol but don't mind them) and am a diehard Tar Heel basketball fan also, hope thats alright!
Thanks and Let's Go Pokes!

My back hurts
Well, App's secondary looked pretty good to me. The two safeties are really good. #11, Favors, is a transfer & got an interception against ECU last week. #4, Ross, also got a pick, & I think leads the team in tackles. But, the defense starts up front. The DEs brought the pressure against UNC & got 2 sacks; and UNC did not allow a sack in their previous game against South Carolina. App's D allowed a total of 46 yards in the 2nd half against ECU. The surprise for me has been the LBs. They play as a team & bring the lumber when it is needed.CarolinaCowboy wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 5:19 pm Being born and raised in NC, I have a lot of friends who went to App and talking to them about the game this Saturday, they expect it to be quite the fight from the first kick. So, yes, App's offense is wide open with weapons at all positions. But, App's D is top notch too. After three games, the entire team is learning to play as a unit. I think what is the biggest surprise this year is that the coaching staff seems better at responding to game time situations with adjustments; and the team executes those adjustments better than recent years.
Looking forward to the game!
I think you'll be surprised by our team speed, especially on defense. The key to this game, in my opinion, is can our DL/LB units speed outpace your big, strong OL enough to cause disruption (and can they hold their own against your run).
I don't think the analytics have caught up to how much better our defense is playing compared to last year. Should be a really fun and interesting game. Both of these teams are good enough to play for their respective conference titles.

Such a hard game to predict. The D is going to need to show up from the first series all the way through.
My biggest worry (other than Appy jumping all over us from the get go) is a close game late in the third with a tired D.

hello Cowboys!
App State guy here. Looking forward to the game, been reading your board and you guys sound like good people.
I love the culture you guys have. While a lot of folks are thinking App will win, I'm thinking you guys will pull it out.
We've played two in-state rivals in the last two weeks, and now traveling across the country, I'm expecting a bit of a let down. We'll see....thanks for the hospitality, and I'll be pulling for you after this weekend.
Here's to a good game with no injuries

The teams are both good with relatively similar talent levels.
Boone (North Carolina's Mountain Town) is at an elevation of 3,232. War Memorial Stadium sits an elevation of roughly 7,220 feet. This will be the difference. Assuming Waylee stays healthy, I see Wyoming's run game being too much for App State late in the game.
27-18 Pokes.

It's just tough to travel the whole way across the country and play a football game regardless of the location. Big advantage Pokes.

Hence the -3 I believe. If WYO was there, that would probably be flipped.LanderPoke wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 3:09 pm It's just tough to travel the whole way across the country and play a football game regardless of the location. Big advantage Pokes.
Dear Karma,
I have a list of people you missed...

Tru dat! But i figure if i can make it out there a bunch of 20+ yr old athletes can too! App will be in good shape and ready to play football. Course, the last time i was there, most of our players were in diapers! Just sayin!LanderPoke wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 3:09 pm It's just tough to travel the whole way across the country and play a football game regardless of the location. Big advantage Pokes.
