Was Purcell getting released a contract deal? Usually when you’re released, you get signed to the practice squad but he’s in the 53 man roster now. Weird

It was a weird deal. They cut him so they could keep 2 players that they wanted to put on IR on the roster. The next day they sent them to IR and re-signed Purcell to his old deal.

The NFL rule is that if a player is put on IR before the final roster date they can't play all year. If they're put on IR after the final roster date they can come back in 4 weeks. The Broncos asked him and a TE to take one for the team.

That's no joke. Gentry has made a career of being a practice squad player, and it's all because Josh is pulling strings.
Trubisky might have had a small role too.

Apologies. I was out of town last week and didn't get this updated. Here's this week's recap.

Week 3:

Josh Allen - Buffalo Bills:
The Bills lost a heartbreaker in Miami 19-21
STATS: 42/63, 400 yards, 2 TD, 8 carries, 47 yards
NEXT UP: Buffalo will visit Baltimore for an early game on CBS
Buffalo needs to figure out a running game. 63 passes in one game is crazy.

Marcus Epps - Philadelphia Eagles:
The Eagles handled the Commanders 24-8
STATS: 4 tackles, 1 INT
NEXT UP: The Eagles will host the Jags in an early game on CBS
Marcus has busted his butt to earn his starting spot, and is continuing to prove himself game over game

Tashaun Gipson - San Francisco 49ers:
San Francisco lost to the Broncos with the strangest score I've ever seen, 10-11
STATS: 5 tackles
NEXT UP: The Niners will host the Rams on Monday Night
Tashaun is one of the best safties in the league so far. Crazy that he was a free agent for so long.

Carl Granderson - New Orleans Saints:
The Saints made it look closer than it actually was, losing to Carolina 14-22
STATS: 3 tackles, 1 sack
NEXT UP: New Orleans will be the home team against Minnesota in London early Sunday morning
Granderson has 1 of only 2 team sacks on the season

Chad Muma - Jacksonville Jaguars:
Jacksonville easily took care of the Chargers 38-10
STATS: None recorded
NEXT UP: The Jaguars will travel to Philadelphia for an early game on CBS
It's only a matter of time before Muma gets his shot on defense

Mike Purcell - Denver Broncos
Denver beat San Francisco with a baseball score 11-10
STATS: 5 tackles, 1 sack, 1 safety
UP NEXT: The Broncos will travel to Las Vegas for a late game on CBS
Purcell was credited with the game winning safety

Logan Wilson - Cincinnati Bengals:
The Bengals took care of business against the Jets 27-12
STATS: 7 tackles, 1 pass defended, 1 INT
UP NEXT: Cincinnati will host the Dolphins on Thursday Night
Wilson got his first pick of the season. He has more than any linebacker over the past 2 seasons.

Andrew Wingard - Jacksonville Jaguars:
Jacksonville easily took care of the Chargers 38-10
STATS: None recorded
NEXT UP: The Jaguars will travel to Philadelphia for an early game on CBS
Wingard continues to be a special teams leader for the Jags

Sounds like maybe another season ending injury for Chase Roullier in Washington. Really sucks for him. Glad he signed a fat contract at least.

This is interesting: Cassh Maluia is playing for a pro rugby team that is entirely composed of cross-sport athletes.

Raptors are a Pro team out of Glendale in Denver. They are really more like semi-pro, very few, if any players in that league, make enough to live on.

Will be interesting to see how he does.

Still blows my mind how successful Tashaun has been in the NFL. I remember being pissed about him and his bro missing tackles.

Me too. I even thought his brother was better than Tashaun. But what do I know, I thought Epps was a good college safety but would never make it in the pros.

Week 4:

Josh Allen - Buffalo Bills:
Buffalo held off the Ravens for a 23-20 win.
STATS: 19/36, 213 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 11 carries, 70 yards, 1 rushing TD
NEXT UP: The Bills will host the Steelers in an early game on CBS
Josh is on fire to start the season.

Marcus Epps - Philadelphia Eagles:
The Eagles extended their winning streak to 4 with a 29-21 defeat of the Jaguars
STATS: 1 tackle, 1 pass defended
NEXT UP: The Eagles visit Arizona for a late game on Fox
Epps has played every defensive snap this season, along with the majority of special teams plays. Unreal!

Tashaun Gipson - San Francisco 49ers:
The 49ers demolished the Rams 24-9
STATS: 2 tackles
NEXT UP: The Niners visit Carolina for a late game on CBS
Gipson is the 3rd best safety in the league, according to Pro Football Focus

Carl Granderson - New Orleans Saints:
New Orleans couldn't hold off the Vikings, losing 25-28
STATS: None recorded
NEXT UP: New Orleans will host the Seahawks in an early game on Fox
Carl left the game early with an eye injury and did not return.

Chad Muma - Jacksonville Jaguars:
The Jags couldn't get past the Eagles, losing 21-29
STATS: None recorded
NEXT UP: Jacksonville will host the Texans in an early game on CBS
Muma still doing most of his work on special teams

Mike Purcell - Denver Broncos
The Broncos came out of Las Vegas with a 23-32 loss
STATS: 4 tackles
UP NEXT: Denver will host the Colts for the Thursday Night Game on Amazon Prime
Another solid game for Big Mike

Logan Wilson - Cincinnati Bengals:
Cincinnati wrecked the Bengals 27-15
STATS: 7 tackles
UP NEXT: The Bengals will travel to Baltimore for the Sunday Night game on NBC
I have a hard time believing there are many linebackers in the NFL better than Logan.

Andrew Wingard - Jacksonville Jaguars:
The Jags couldn't get past the Eagles, losing 21-29
STATS: 2 tackles
NEXT UP: Jacksonville will host the Texans in an early game on CBS
Dewey absolutely destroyed a dude on the only punt of the afternoon for Jacksonville

Josh Allen - Buffalo Bills:
Buffalo beat KC in Arrowhead 24-20
STATS: 27/40, 329 yards, 3 TD, 12 carries, 1 lost fumble

The rematch of last year's insane playoff game did not disappoint. Best game of the year so far in the NFL.

Marcus Epps - Philadelphia Eagles:
The Eagles took down divisional rival Dallas 26-17
STATS: 5 tackles, 1 pass defended
NEXT UP: Philadelphia is on a bye
Epps continued his iron-man streak of playing every defensive snap so far this year.

Tashaun Gipson - San Francisco 49ers:
San Francisco couldn't hold off the Falcons, losing 14-28
STATS: 9 tackles
NEXT UP: San Francisco will host the Chiefs for a late game on Fox
Tashaun just continues to produce for the Niners.

Carl Granderson - New Orleans Saints:
New Orleans couldn't beat the Bengals, losing 26-30
STATS: None recorded
NEXT UP: The Saints will travel to Arizona for the Thursday night game
Quiet game for Carl

Jacob Hollister - Minnesota Vikings:
Minnesota beached the Dolphins 24-16
Stats: None recorded
NEXT UP: The Vikings are on a bye
Hollister was elevated to the active roster for the first time this year

Chad Muma - Jacksonville Jaguars:
Jacksonville lost their third straight game, falling to Indianapolis 27-34
STATS: None recorded
NEXT UP: Jacksonville will host the Giants for an early game on Fox
Jacksonville is pretty clearly developing Chad for the future rather than playing him a bunch now

Mike Purcell - Denver Broncos
The Broncos fell to the Chargers 16-19
STATS: 3 tackles
UP NEXT: Denver will host the Jets for a late game on CBS
The Broncos aren't using Mike as much this year, but he's still getting lots of snaps

Logan Wilson - Cincinnati Bengals:
The Bengals took down the Saints 30-26
STATS: 4 tackles
UP NEXT: Cincinnati will host the Falcons in an early game on Fox
Logan tore up his surgically repaired shoulder and is out for this week. Happened on this play.

Andrew Wingard - Jacksonville Jaguars:
Jacksonville lost their third straight game, falling to Indianapolis 27-34
STATS: None recorded
NEXT UP: Jacksonville will host the Giants for an early game on Fox
Dewey's time with the Jags may be short lived at this point
