When it comes to basketball jobs there's a reason why it's called Laradise. This place is paradise for a college basketball program.
1. The university of Wyoming just finished a billion dollar facilities campaign. Everything is new or recently renovated. The basketball facilities are hard to rival. With 100 million in new basketball facilities on top of 1 billion dollars worth of academic facilities, Wyoming sits in an unique place in the college landscape. Almost everything in Laradise is new for University of Wyoming students.
2. Wyoming has a winning percentage about 70 percent in the Dome of Doom. It's an incredible advantage for athletes to play at the altitude olympic athletes train at. With Wyoming basketball's fan base the Dome of Doom can be the most difficult road trip in sport. Wyoming basketball players win 70 percent of their home games with Wyoming fans cheering them on.
3. Wyoming basketball fans take the show on the road. When it comes to traveling support there are 2 MWC teams that can take a lot of pride: the Lobos and the Pokes. You're likely to see it this year in Vegas. The Lobos and Cowboys have brought around 10 thousand fans to Vegas. The high water mark for Wyoming was with Marcus Bailey and company in the early 2000's. The Lobos consistently bring 8-10 thousand fans to Vegas when their teams are competitive. This year you will see the 2 teams with the most support in Vegas are the Cowboys and the Lobos. That doesn't change.
4. The AA is full of history. We have a lot of banners. There's a statue of a man that popularized the jump shot in both the college game and the predecessor to the NBA. That man won 2 NCAA player of the year awards, was an all-american three times, won the NCAA tournament MVP and the NCAA tournament, won the first true national championship by beating the NIT champion St. John's in MSG to benefit the war effort, and won the first national championship at football or basketball out of any team residing in the mountain time zone. Wyoming basketball dominated the 1930's, 1940's, and 1950's and the history of that great era of Cowboy basketball is memorialized under the 2 national title banners they earned.
Our staff realize what a good thing they have. So does every other university athletics director looking for a basketball coach. Our staff is fire right now and everybody wants them. That is the current climate. The good news: they realize they're in a good place. They aren't looking to go anywhere else. They want to stay in Laradise.
The AA is about to experience a large boost in attendance and revenue this year. The product is great and the momentum has been building for 2 years. There's some new basketball revenue in the pipeline currently. Having said that, we need to ask these guys what they need to be more competitive and then gather our resources to provide that support.
The reality is, if you want to compete you have to have the right people in place. When you have them, you need to keep them around and allow them to grow. We have the right people. Let's build a bunker around them and let them work. People are going to come calling for the members of our staff. Let's do what it takes to keep these people in Laradise as long as possible.
The things you can do to support this staff are easy.
1. Buy tickets and go to games. Make sure you fill the seats with actual asses that are willing to support great basketball. We don't want to see empty seats. We need the fans to buy tickets AND show up.
2. Buy season tickets.
3. Join the Cowboy Joe Club.
4. Buy Wyoming merchandise as gifts for people.
5. Buy tickets and go to games.
Don't be surprised when people come calling for our staff this season. We still have time to prepare for that reality. Do your part to support this staff and keep them in Laradise.
What we're going to have to do to retain our staff this year....

A bunch of money - - not only for the coaches but for the players. The staff isn't going to stick around if they can't greatly increase the chances of success with a bunch of NIL money to offer players.
We will probably never know but it would be very interesting to see the total amount of NIL for Wyoming basketball players this year. I guess we will just have to see what they are driving to the game.

Yep. NIL deals are going to be necessary on the new landscape. If the federal regulators ever let Wyoming digital banks off the ground there's potential for NIL deals through them. Still, we need a couple of the big dogs in Wyoming to step up and get some real NIL money to these guys. How about the wind power crowd stepping up to support these Pokes!! There should be a cost for doing wind business in Wyoming. If you want to kill all our birds, provide us a wing that shoots 40 percent from deep.
The time is now to realize the potential of the Wyoming basketball job and turn this into Gonzaga at 7220. This job has that kind of potential.
We just need to get more support mechanisms in place and allow this basketball job to continue to grow.

Great points...the main fly in the ointment is going to be NIL and getting recruits. Step one...make sure Linder has to think real hard before taking another offer. If we can do that...I think he might be the guy that can spearhead the rest. If we lose him, make sure it's not just money...meaning, he's going to a legit blue-blood program. If we can be in the neighborhood with the non-blue blood P5 program offers we have a chance but if the AD doesn't have the funds...well...he gone!

The re-seating of the AA still has folks staying away. I don't know that it can be completely reversed, but I think they need to sort individual donors from corporate donors, giving the individual donors a higher priority when it comes to seating. Another thing that might help is following through on the "club" seating and pushing the corporate donors towards those seats.
The season seats that were taken from life-long holders and given to corporate donors has simply resulted in a lot of very high profile empty seats AND quite a few former season ticket holders who still aren't back.

The Bull makes an extremely passionate & logical case for the Department of Athletics to pursue a liaison position in “Special Projects and Capital Investment”.
Maybe a board of selected power players elected from different specialized businesses and industry leaders to brainstorm & rally financing around University Athletics needed improvements.
There is a ton of energy around this Linder led program, and it’s obvious an independently run yet UW affiliated team headed by a guy like a Ben Blalock, who know how to raise funds and gain interest in core projects could be a boon to our collective programs. Starting with Men’s Hoops.
Seeing how we have come up short of the finish line on the Dome remodel and other projects before, this might offer a way to bring accountability and leverage future UW athletic endeavors.

At the molecular level all mankind is a brilliant super-nova.
I'm not talking about creating a powerful insiders group to influence UW athletics. We have enough of those. Do we need someone to facilitate NIL deals: probably.johnywyo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 1:15 pm The Bull makes an extremely passionate & logical case for the Department of Athletics to pursue a liaison position in “Special Projects and Capital Investment”.

Im talking about our athletics department/fan base keep increasing support and giving our staff the tools they need to turn 7220 into Gonzaga at altitude.
The easiest thing any fan can do is buy tickets and go to games.
The reality is, if we want to keep these guys here, we're all going to have to keep increasing our support.

Haven’t seen that.
People upset with a team supposedly full of talent with high expectations and preseason hype, sure.
You’re over exaggerating.

Maybe it's the heart of the players that want to roll up their sleeves and get it done, especially when the going gets tough...we shall see but it really doesn't get any easier, hope they find a way to turn this roller coaster around and ride their energy accordingly. Beat Texas A&M Commerce 1st as a new start.

Before the season, I wouldn’t have thought the result against Commerce would in any way be in doubt even if half the team caught the flu. Now I’m not even sure we should be favored.stymeman wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2022 10:31 pm Maybe it's the heart of the players that want to roll up their sleeves and get it done, especially when the going gets tough...we shall see but it really doesn't get any easier, hope they find a way to turn this roller coaster around and ride their energy accordingly. Coaches don't stay because of the support they get in good years. They stay because of the support they get in down years.

What about performance in a year where they bring back 95% of the team and commence to poop the bed? Is that a decent metric of coaching performance? Not saying Linder has to go, but WTF? This team was supposedly stacked with depth and talent and uh....not so much....flyfishwyo wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 10:38 am Coaches don't stay because of the support they get in good years.
