Maybe they're robbing Peter to pay Paul
From all indications, Jeanty’s deal is also worth half a million.
Are their boosters putting all their eggs in the NIL basket and not contributing as much to the university itself? I would like to know the economics of such. Where is the money coming from for these massive deals?

I think it’s a waste. But it shows the massive divide just between us and Boise. And then the divide between Boise and the average P5 is even much bigger.

Even Trent Dilfer recognizes the reality:

We might not be in a conference with bsu much longer. Who knows. The impact of nil reduces at our level but also isn't nonexistent.

ragtimejoe1 wrote: Fri Jan 05, 2024 6:29 am You act like only your opinion is objective. There are more than a few clues here that point to nepotism while overlooking more qualified candidates. Just because you're ok going along with that stuff doesn't make you or them right. It also doesn't make everyone who opposes seemingly blatant nepotism non-objective whiners. In my opinion this is really bad optics for the program and now we'll see how it turns out.
You're fighting old battles; calm down. I straight up told you that Giles is probably more deserving and better equipped, and I'd have been fine with that promotion as well. Stop trying to disingenuously goad me into more arguments.

I just said that AB in a vacuum isn't a bad hire; he's a good coach and it's objectively the next step in his career progression so it's not like it's way out of left field. I'm not going to have a meltdown over it for that reason, especially if it means we get to keep two very good coaches.

The two things aren't mutually exclusive.

You'll notice, however, that I'm pitching an absolute fit over Johnson because that's a buddy hire that isn't deserved, logical, or based on performance at all. I'm not inconsistent, and I'm not nearly as apathetic as you seem to be painting me as.

Jason Petrino safety’s coach. Cody Tucker 7220 is high on him.

Apologies to Giles and Grant. You deserve better. I hope these 2 men get excellent opportunities somewhere.

Petrino makes a ton of sense. He's been a DC at the DII and FCS level for 12 seasons. Knows the areas that we like to recruit. He's going to be able to mentor Bohl alongside Sawvel and make sure this defense hums.

I am very interested to watch how Sawvel structures the rest of the staff. In particular who stays, who goes and who he brings in.

Who does Petrino replace? When can we fire Grant?

He replaced Sawvel, who was coaching the safeties while DC. I assume that Bohl will continue to coach LBs in his role as DC.

That would be crazy money for them. I don’t buy it but it’s possible

With the signings, and the roster base, which seems looks promising with no major transfers (not withstanding April) I’m really excited about the football program. Until Sawvil proves his worth and gets the bigger stage. But, until then, Go Pokes!

I like it! This is the kind of thing that endears a coach to players.

I love the idea of the coach lifting together with the players. It builds team unity and and an understanding that the work is expected from everyone.

Sure does. We’ll know how the players accept him next month. 🤞 but I agree with you, this sure can’t hurt. That’s one knock on Bohl - there wasn’t his type of interaction by some accounts and bonding with players.

Good read on Sawvels ability to relate to the kids. Well know soon with the opening of the spring portal, but high praise from some outgoing players. I’m ready to move on from this years MBB for a few months and excited for football this year.
