Pokes in the Pros: Week 16

LARAMIE, Wyo. (1/2/24) – The stats may not always bear it out, but believe this, Josh Allen has put Buffalo in a playoff position when one month ago that didn’t seem likely. The former University of Wyoming student-athlete hasn’t lit up the scoreboard, but his grit, toughness and skill have elevated the Bills to a pair of wins and a chance at the AFC East title going into the final week of the regular season.
In a 24-22 Week 16 come-from-behind win at the Los Angeles Chargers, Allen was 15-for-21 for 237 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He added five rushes totaling 15 yards and two scores.
In a 27-21 Week 17 victory over New England, Allen was 15-for-30 for 169 yards and one pick. He tacked on 44 yards on 11 carries with two scores.
For the season, Allen is 355-for-541 for 3,947 yards with 27 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He has added 457 yards on 96 rushes with 15 scores for 10-6 Buffalo.
Allen wasn’t the only former Wyoming football player to perform well for his National Football League franchise. Below is a list of the Pokes and how they did during Weeks 16 and 17.

Logan Wilson, Cincinnati Bengals
Wilson did pretty much all he could to keep the Bengals in the playoff race. He performed very well at Pittsburgh and was solid at Kansas City, as well.
Wilson piled up a season-high 11 tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass defended in a 34-11 loss to the Steelers. He recorded five tackles in a 25-17 loss to the Chiefs.
For the season, Wilson has 130 tackles – which ranks 15th in the league – five tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, three interceptions, eight passes defended and four quarterback hits for 8-8 Cincinnati.
The Bengals close out the regular season at home against Cleveland.

Carl Granderson, New Orleans Saints
Granderson had two significantly different games in the span of two weeks. He put forth one of his best games ever in a 30-22 loss at the Los Angeles Rams before having a very mild game in a 23-13 victory at Tampa Bay.
Granderson piled up eight tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack and one quarterback hit against the Rams. He logged one tackle against the Buccaneers.
For the season, Granderson owns 74 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, 19 quarterback hits, one pass defended, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery for 8-8 New Orleans.
The Saints close out the regular season at home against the Falcons.

Tashaun Gipson, San Francisco 49ers
Gipson had a wide variance in production over the last two weeks. He boasted a big game in the 49ers’ 33-19 loss to Baltimore prior to having an OK game in a 27-10 win at Washington.
Gipson registered seven tackles and one tackle for loss against the Ravens. He made two tackles against the Commanders.
For the season, Gipson has carded 60 tackles, three tackles for loss, one interception, three passes defended and one quarterback hit for 12-4 San Francisco.
The 49ers close out the regular season at home against the Los Angeles Rams.

Andrew Wingard, Jacksonville Jaguars
Wingard laid claim to a pair of OK games the last two weeks. He registered two tackles and one tackle for loss in the Jaguars’ 30-12 loss at Tampa Bay and he made one tackle in a 26-0 victory over Carolina.
For the season, Wingard boasts 45 tackles, one tackle for loss, two passes defended and an interception for 9-7 Jacksonville.
The Jaguars close out the regular season at Tennessee.

Mike Purcell, Denver Broncos
Purcell enjoyed a pair of decent games over the last couple of weeks. He made two tackles in the Broncos’ 26-23 loss to New England before recording three in a 16-9 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.
On the year, Purcell lays claim to 22 tackles, five quarterback hits, three passes defended and one fumble recovery for 8-8 Denver.
The Broncos close out the regular season at Las Vegas.

Marcus Epps, Las Vegas Raiders
Epps had a couple of mild games over the course of the last two weeks. He logged one tackle in the Raiders’ 20-14 victory at Kansas City and had three tackles in a 23-20 loss at Indianapolis.
For the season, Epps has logged 58 tackles, four tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and three passes defended for the 7-9 Raiders.
Las Vegas closes out the regular season at home against Denver.

Tyler Hall, Las Vegas Raiders
Hall didn’t record a stat in either of the Raiders’ last two games. On the year, he owns 20 tackles for 7-9 Las Vegas.

Chad Muma, Jacksonville Jaguars
Muma didn’t record a stat in either of the Jaguars’ last two contests. For the season, Muma has registered 15 tackles for 9-7 Jacksonville.
