Wyoming gets New Mexico State at home next year,

That has potential to be a good ooc draw. They are usually pretty good and their regional enough to draw some interest.

Anyone know of any others? I assume there will be two D2 games mixed in (one at the beginning and one around finals, that seems to be Shyatt's strategy). Typically Shyatt also schedules the Pokes in an early season "tournament" that involves 2-3 low major teams coming to Laramie. Not sure if we will see that this year or not.

If Nance hadn't gotten hurt I would have really liked to see the Pokes push the OOC schedule by gaining entrance into a quality neutral court early season tourney (Hawaii, Puerto Rico, etc.), but due to the uncertainty surrounding his return I think the 6 games noted above, particularly CU, SMU, Cal, and NMSU, will provide enough of a test.

wouldn't it be nice if a KU or Louisville could come to the new friendly confines of the AA, ok I just woke up again..lol

I don't think it's the problem of getting them here to be honest I don't think any team actually wants to come to Wyoming to play and potentially get beat by a nobody. This goes for teams in and out of our conference it's not about money or anything else it's about not taking a chance on the unknown.

No, it's very much about the money.....

New Mexico St, I'll take that especially with that huge Andre the Giant type player that played well in that NCAA tourney game, should be fun, I'll be there, duh, lol

Yep, I totally agree.

SDSU schedules tough teams, because SDSU is respected, and those teams know that if they lose to SDSU, it won't potentially keep them out of the tourney or drop them 5 seeds in the bracket.

It's not about a tough test, like many coaches say it is, or people would be lining up to come to Laramie in OOC play.
What better of a test is coming to 7220 and playing a very strong defense, with some very good offensive players?

Theoretical situation here, but if Luke didn't get in trouble at the Buck 2 seasons ago, and Larry didn't go down with the ACL last season, and Wyo had made the Big Dance, we wouldn't need to be scheduling D2 teams, instead, it would be some bigger teams. I'm not saying Kansas or Duke would be coming to Laramie, but teams like Washington, Oregon State, Creighton, or some Big10 teams would be willing to play us, simply because we would be a very respected program. A loss to a team who was in the NCAA Tourney the last two years, and will make it a 3rd year is not as bad as a loss to a team who has a 2-3 CBI record over the last 3 seasons.

When I was in school, we got both Cincinnatti and Louisville to come to Laramie. Would you believe that the Louisville game did not come close to selling out but a BYU game did later that season?

Sadly I'm not surprised.

Wyoming has to consistently beat UNLV, UNM & SDSU year in and year out before it will get any respect but I still don't buy it all being about money I think money is part of it but the bottom line is Laramie is considered a hard place to play and no one wants to come and play here in Basketball.

In Football on the other side they don't seem to care as much because we haven't taken advantage of the altitude in the last 10 years.

We seem to do well at home against SDSU and UNLV, and on the road we do better against them than other teams do. UNM though, they've been a constant pain. The games come down to the last posession, and then we fail to either stop them or we fail to get the last needed bucket.

I don't think we'll ever see big 5 schools coming to Laramie. With an increase in scheduling money we can see teams like Wichita State, Gonzaga, Utep, and other programs that are consistently good.

Here's part 2 of Vorel's look at Wyoming athletics. This article is about scheduling money.

No it's not. Going rate for those games are like $70-$100k. Wyoming can afford that.

Billings Gazette reporting that Wyoming and Montana St. will have an in-season home and home as well. MSU played in Laramie last year. Not sure if it is all part of a 2 for 1 arrangement or if they are separate deals. Either way, functionally 2 games in Laramie vs. 1 in Bozeman. That's reasonable for games against a Big Sky opponent.

That brings the number of known games up to 8.

So far we have,

NMSU
@Cal
@SMU
CU
DU
@UNC
MSU
@MSU

That is starting to look like one of our better schedules in years.
