This is good. Maldo needs to shoot about 27,000 threes in the off season

Maybe work in his passes and reducing turnovers, but I’m not being critical. Really happy if he returns for one more year. I think if we can get a solid PG, and some other scorers in addition to Maldo and Ike, the TOs will take care of themselves.LanderPoke wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 10:29 am This is good. Just because he brought the ball up doesn’t mean he has to be the PG. Our offense was predicated on him dribbling up, then backing his guy down. No reason that someone like Reynolds can’t bring the ball up and give it to Maldo and start the offense with him posting up a guy. What we are really looking for is a mismatch and when you have the size at guard that we have, it’s there. On the flip side, we struggled huge against teams that played with small, quick guards

Maldonado has a lot of skills for sure.
He handles the ball well “enough” for the position he would play in the NBA. He wouldn’t be the main PG on any team.
I think what the scouts will tell him more than anything is go work on your 3 point shot over the off season and keep working on your post up moves as a guard. Get your 3 point shot to where it as close to automatic as possible so you can use it to give shot fakes if people want to come out on you and drill it if they sag off.
Think if he gets his 3 point shot down he will get drafted the year after next. Think there is a very decent shot he is back.
I also think Linder will bring in another PG who can handle the ball very well so we can play the way Linder likes to play and also have the option to play a Maldonado type offense as welll making us even harder to guard. Would like to see another good defensive, rebounding Big man to put along side Ike from the transfer portal.
There has to be a good PG and good big man in the Portal that would want to come play with Ike and the boys for one year that could make the team a top 20 one to start the year. I know if anyone can get them to come to Laramie it’s Linder.

I'm a little shocked at this. Our bench was a little thin last year. We will be 9 deep this year. I would think we will be the pre season favorites to win the MW.
It's at least nine deep, if not 10 or more.bladerunnr wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 10:25 pm I'm a little shocked at this. Our bench was a little thin last year. We will be 9 deep this year. I would think we will be the pre season favorites to win the MW.
Here's a link to our current roster.
https://gowyo.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster
It gives the coaches the head ache of having to make some really hard decisions.
If Kenny Foster is healthy, he's going to play. I'm assuming Caden Powell will make the rotation because he's been recruited at a position of need: back-up center and shot blocker. Hunter Thompson will be able to play more stretch 4.
Let's look at a potential 2 deep(just a guess, no idea who makes the starting 5).
PG: Anderson/Reynolds
SG: Xavier/Wenzel/Foster
SF: Maldo/Kyman
PF: J.O./Akbonkpolo/Thompson/Barnhart
C: Ike/Powell
I'm not even listing guys twice at different positions. We legitimately have 13 players that could see playing time and all have them have a chance to make the 2 deep.
I'm guessing Barnhart needs a little more weight. I'm assuming Foster will be injured although I'm praying he's not. That still leaves us with 11 guys that can play at this level.
We have crazy depth this year.

SDSU will still be the #1 fave and I'm ok with that, but I'm truly excited again and 22-23 gonna be fun, just hope we don't get ranked too soon, that's our kryptonite...lol.

Walking into the War for the Air Force game Maldonado was throwing a football outside the indoor practice facility. He took a picture with my sons. When we went to walk away my son said sure glad you stayed, Maldos response……..emphatic “me too”! I sure hope winter doesn’t prevent us from getting to many Wyoming games. Already have reserved my room for the MW tourney!!!! Can’t wait!!!
