Pretty interesting article (not sure if the link will work below if you don't have a Wall Street Journal subscription)

Not sure if people saw the headline a few weeks back about gambling regulators looking into suspicious betting activity on the UNLV-UNM game last month. Turns out they wrapped the investigation up with no conclusive findings. The handle (amount bet) was 35-40% more than a normal MWC game, and much of it came from brand new accounts across several different sportsbooks.

Interesting read. Wonder what the $$$ swing was. NM players likely cashed in, or their friends & family did.Poke in New England wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 10:37 am Pretty interesting article (not sure if the link will work below if you don't have a Wall Street Journal subscription)

I couldn’t read the article and don’t plan to subscribe to do so, but this timeline was kind of stupid “ A surge of suspicious bets came in for UNLV to defeat New Mexico last month. Nobody knows why.”. Wouldn’t most everyone have bet on UNLV to beat NM beforehand. What am I missing?

The bets were on the line which was already in UNLV’s favor. Lines typically are set in theory to draw roughly equal bets on both sides.Itsux2beaewe wrote: ↑Fri Dec 29, 2023 11:00 am I couldn’t read the article and don’t plan to subscribe to do so, but this timeline was kind of stupid “ A surge of suspicious bets came in for UNLV to defeat New Mexico last month. The surge was also driven by brand new accounts, and the total amount bet was significantly higher than a normal MWC game.Itsux2beaewe wrote: ↑Fri Dec 29, 2023 11:00 am I couldn’t read the article and don’t plan to subscribe to do so, but this timeline was kind of stupid “ A surge of suspicious bets came in for UNLV to defeat New Mexico last month.
